Sorry to be pedantic, but it is 86J - it is literally 70J plus two full rows of 8.

Having fallen into the trap myself, it would be a shame if the notion got out that there were some 84J aircraft and some 86J aircraft!

Personally, I would not be so sure. When there were two 747s a day, it was typically one 70J aircraft and one 52J aircraft. Now that the 70J flight has become a 380 flight, it is typically a 380 plus a 52J. If the CW demand really were so strong, I would have expected JNB to have been an all-70J route and then 380+70J, but it wasn't/isn't.

I don't believe that they have been changed, they have only recently finished the refurbishment programme of these.

They were kind of a signature item in the ancient 744 cabin but here they form a stark anachronism.

Pardon my ignorance, but where does one go to see a particular flight's configuration? The "choose your seat" on the BA site wouldn't work for this, since I'm not in J.

Then work off the rest of the configuration…

Maybe look at the seat map on the BA Source and see what the config is for your cabin, and that will tell you which 747 you are on… For example, it is the only 747 to have a single WT cabin, rows 39-53/55… No other.

You can do a dummy booking in J all the way through to the pre-payment page. Make sure you're logged in, and then you'll be able to view the seat map before proceeding with the booking.

Alternatively, the W/Y cabins are different across the configurations, so you should be able to tell from those maps in MMB if booked in one of those cabins. F is the only cabin that's the same configuration.

For the 74S, you should be able to see this from your own booking if you're in any cabin other than F. The configurations of WT+ and WT are also specific to this configuration.

Otherwise, ExpertFlyer would be my first port of call. As it's a seating question, it may even be that one of the free options on EF would give you this information.

Hi,

Does any know which flights the 74S will be on over Christmas. I'm flying to JFK around the 19th returning early Jan and would like to book onto the refitted 747. Will there be 2 refitted aircraft by then?

Thanks

It's too soon to know the specific aircraft flying on a certain day.

According to Globaliser's tracker (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/25318076-post1200.html) there will be two aircraft converted in December. You might get lucky and have one on outbound, inbound or both, but given the number of 744s doing that route I wouldn't bank on it.
From the looks of things CIVF, the sole 86J config, has been almost exclusively on the LHR-JFK route.
