Nice pictures ^

Am I the only one thinking that those round ceiling lamps look rather incongruous and out of place against the modern, sleek design and mood lighting ?

Oh, I dislike (hate is such a strong word) them too. I prefer a full blown candelabra at every seat.

i happened to be on this first flight yesterday as BA117. it was exceedingly frustrating that they delayed the flight by increments of 10mins because that meant you'd have to get up to look at the screens...every ten mins. was told this was due to slow progress in getting plane from hangar across to gate.

then yes. the fuel loaded issue.

when we left just under three hours late...but the new cabins are DEFINITELY fresh feeling. the new panasonic system is slick (in coach) and there were one or two people around me who had issues but there was a panasonic technician on board.

the expanded J cabin feels more spacious due to the additional two rows that extend past the exit door.

sadly gone is the "throne" WT+ seat however

J and F just looked....the same. just clean relative to the state the 744s are in.

I've got a JFK-LHR as BA114 this coming Friday, and in MMB the servicing aircraft is listed as a 74S. Is this the new aircraft we are discussing in this thread?

Looks like a rammed flight, and I'm hopeful for a move forward from 61K to a nice low seat row number

Shame that F gets no update. The 747-400 F product is now the worst in the fleet - in particular 4-5E/F are really small and cramped... If you do an A380 F then a jumbo you really notice it. They probably should have taken 2 seats out and gone for 12F but suspect that they don't make enough money in F fares for it to be realistic......

I'll be on BA112 in about a month, and BA 115 in about 6 weeks. Is there any way to tell if they'll be retrofitted, or is it just luck of the draw?

Excited to try this (mood lighting is a nice touch!) though my December BA173 to JFK and BA212 from Boston in WT might not feature the new cabins?

Curious what BA will do about eventually replacing the Super-J 747s on JFK, LOS etc. Perhaps some very small WT cabins will be coming on the future A350 and 787-10 fleets!

How about some high density a380s with an all J downstairs?

The refitted aircraft have a different CW configuration: 86 seats instead of 70. That's one method of identifying whether your flight is currently planned to be operated by a 74S.

Actually you have hit the nail on the head with the A380. The problem is they have 300Y seats and few business routes demand that capacity in Y. It would seem BA is going for aggressive growth in J with a combination of 50% leisure travel and 50% business on higher, less restrictive fares. 84J would have been unthinkable 10 years ago - although there were I think prior to 9-11 a couple of 747-400's fitted with 90J but with the 10-15 Super-J 747-490's and the A380 at 97J it seems the strategy is clear.

I would not be surprised if the next A380 iteration is 125J and with slightly better aisle access which will then take the 297Y down to 225Y which probably suits more routes......

I also expect this Super-J configuration to be on the JNB run alongside the A380. That route just had insatiable capacity - CPT less so as Y strong there as its a leisure route....

FD.

Am I correct in thinking that as of some point next year, the 70J config on the 747's will be no more, you'll either get a 52J or an 84J?
