Is there a paint bay at CWL, thought it was at LHR?

BA aren't paying for this repair so it's not up to them. Boeing have a contracted paint facility at Victorville.

Thanks... makes sense, but wouldn't the same logic apply to the C check too?

The C check will be part of BA's scheduled maintainance programme for the aircraft and would not form part of the repair. I suspect it was originally scheduled to have occured some time between the date of the incident and the date of re-entry into service. It makes sense to do in house, where it would normally be performed.

Well I don't work for BA, so all I can offer is a possible explanation. It would however only make sense to use your own facility if you were having to foot the bill.

Seems to be heading quite a way East at the moment, are they taking a circuitous route deliberately to make the test flight a bit longer to check for any possible issues?

You are correct... There is no paint facility at CWL, LHR only.

Presumably she still has the old IFE? It would've been nice to use the repair job as an opportunity to upgrade but I somehow doubt it...

British Airways seems to think there is a paint facility at CWL.

Interserve provides services for BA at CWL...

This dedicated, purpose-built facility comprises a 242-metre, three-bay hangar, support workshops, a paint shop, offices and ancillary areas.

Come on, this is BA we're talking about

Lots of spare seats from the retired 767s and 747s kicking around which I'm sure will be used.
