LAX was almost dead anyway being one flight a week, but New Delhi is a big blow since it was seen as their escape route. The further fleet reduction is perhaps better portrayed as a reduction from 16 to 11, the other 4 being part of a previous refocus of activity. So that suggests they will end up with a purely A321 fleet as a result of this recent downsizing. They have also put out a new round of cut priced sale tickets, with promotion code WOWXMAS, such that my £239 LGW-BOS-LGW ticket (see report in Other European Airlines forum) is now £236, or £219 without reserved seats.

BA CC rumour on my flight the other day was Norweigen is in trouble over the next few days, but then it does have investors with relatively deep pockets so maybe they’ll be ok
Media reports appear to back the CC concerns- they’ve cut unporiftiable routes, are selling off future aircraft orders and on an emergency cost-cutting exercise
Norweigan issued a statement following financial concerns raised by the banks, reporting that they have cut routes and have interests in some of their planes, but are still getting a Dreamliner delivered in the new year and there financial situation has inproved in the last few days.
Time will tell.

Plenty of market rumours around following the recent Danske Bank research report that they will breach covenants in the next week unless they are successful in refinancing the fleet.
A bit unfortunate to have a brand new 737 worth £50m stranded in Iran after an engine failure too.....

Just seen on the news in Italy that Flybe have been rescued by Virgin, Stobart and a corporate invester. It looks as if they will fly as Virgin Atlantic. Let's see if Virgin can make a success of this after the failure of Little Red. If they can might force BA to up their domestic game with regards coverage (can always dream).

Flybe is recommending a £2m takeover but the share price is still above the offer price, which may just be wishful thinking by shareholders who don't like the offer in 94% below where the shares were trading (Close were 16p, offer is for 1 penny per share).
Three-way consortium making the offer including Virgin and Stobart air.
Think this is positive as it may help give BA a bit more competition, especially in Manchester.

Do you mean on the MAN-LHR route? I still don't understand when there was competition and little red operated that route it was so poorly used though? Are there still additional LHR slots available from the reserved pool BA have to start the route or would BE have to reduce flights to ABZ or EDI to start a MAN route?

I get a feeling that the Virgin thinking was along the lines of 'Flybe codeshares deliver us £x of Manchester long-haul business of which a fair bit will disappear if IAG buys Flybe and cancels our codeshares, or Flybe goes bust. Investing £y in buying Flybe is a way of protecting our annual income of £x.'
Brand-wise, I don't think this will do much for Virgin Atlantic because they can't do much to make Flybe 'special' even if they wanted to.
The opportunity to get Virgin status via Flybe may appeal to some though.
We do at least have "a brand" operating niche domestic flights now, though. With respect to Eastern, Loganair etc you always got the impression that this wasn't a sector taken seriously.

Frequent Flybe flyers in the SOU catchment area may delight at the opportunity to get Virgin status.
When the Stobart deal with BA for E190 flights at LCY ends, is it likely these former Virgin Australia aircraft become Virgin Atlantic?
