WW "airlines to go bust"
So WW has a view on what may happen this winter...

Do the well travelled members of this board agree? I was certainly shocked and saddened to see Malev go under.
Any ideas which airlines Mr Walsh may have in mind?

I think that it is a great approach to try and get editorials published that suggest other airlines will go out of business to try and scare people away from booking on them and well done for helping to spread the BA propoganda

Doesn't mean he isn't right.
He is also right about the visa requirements scaring tourists away who rather go to the Schengen area. This whole UK border protection paranoia is more than annoying. Silly waiting times for ineffective checks. No wonder the Chinese rather go to France.

I've been following the fate of Cityjet closely, it seems the german take-over is stalled, I wouldn't be surprised to see it sold off in pieces .
Olympic must be allowed to merge with Aegean surely?

It's very hard to compete with 'state(oil)-funded' airlines that are doing the rounds recently.
They are not under any shareholder pressure or have to apply to certain EU regs.
It may be good for the consumer in the short term as competitive rules come into play but it does also make the playing field unlevel

2, Scandinavian (although the crisis is fading)
3, Croatia (apparently the government want to sell)
4, Olympic (its fate is on the hand of European bureaucratic)

Fly be phoned me earlier this week. They have reduced flights from Inverness to gatwick from 3 flights to 2 and changed the aircraft from an emb 195 to an emb 175. A big reduction in seats. They have also sold their gatwick slot holding to easy jet

It didn't, it was gracefully shut down. Goodbye to the airline that caused confusion to the bmi brand. Some of the press didn't know the difference to bmi and bmibaby never mind the public.
I don't know what the fees were like near the end, but when I looked a few years ago bmibaby had fees that gave Ryanair a run for their money (this was before Ryanair launched their boarding pass reissue fee).
