This is what I'm planning to book:

1. BOM - EWR - ORD (Stop Over) - PHL - SEA

Will the above be allowed or will be considered back tracking? We don't plan on stopping in EWR or PHL.

2. ORD - EWR (Stop Over) - BOM

I will book the SEA - ORD segment seperate because I'm guessing it can't be included in the above ticket.

Thank you for your help!

As someone else stated before, PHL seems like backtracking and you should be able to do ORD-SEA. Might have to play with the ANA tool to get a routing to match your availability, but I suspect you won't have much of a problem: ORD and DEN are UA hubs, so as long as you keep heading (broadly) westbound, you should be fine.

If the rest of your itin is in C, maybe try for CO or AC to keep in a premium cabin if there's something avail? Not sure offhand what options you'd have with CO, but you might have luck with AC via YYZ (which may not be considered backtracking - I've booked routings in the other direction via ORD that have been OK'd) or perhaps YYC/YVR.

Not sure if it's allowable, but I wonder if SEA-ORD(surface)EWR-BOM as a redemption would be allowable under the regs? I suspect that ORD-EWR may be cheaper than SEA-ORD - might be worth checking first, though.

Their plans have changed a little:

I booked the following 1 way ticket:

BOM - EWR - ORD (stop over) - Vancouver

Still need to book the other 1 way. They will take a 1 way cruise to Alaska.

They need to cover Chicago, New York & Hartford.

I guess ORD - NYC (stopover) - BOM is probably going to be their best best.

I will buy the ANC - ORD ticket since they aren't available in economy or business in any case and I don't want to pony up first class miles since the international sector(s) are in business.

Any idea if ORD - HFD (stop over & open jaw) & NYC - BOM will be allowed?

If not I will just do the ORD - NYC (stopover) - BOM

Shouldn't be a problem as it isn't backtracking.

Great, thanks! I figured since it was a stop over and an open jaw I might have an issue.

Will ANC - ORD (Stop Over & Open Jaw) NYC - BOM work as well?

Based on the following thread I guess I should be fine:

Thanks again :)

Hi,

is this route allowed?

NAN - AKL (Stopover) - VLI

That makes not really sense, but only Air New Zealand operates this route...

Thanks a lot for your help!

I finally find some dates that suit LON-ORD but want to move on to LAS.

There is nothing available on UA ORD-LAS, however expert flyer suggests that ORD-DEN-LAS is available.

So, is LHR-ZRH-ORD-DEN-LAS a legal option, outbound? Or do we need to go Direct from ORD-LAS.

Alos If we wanted to stop over in ORD, for one night or more, could we still do the ORD-DEN-LAS section?

Cheers!

I think with a stopover it would sound far more reasonable for your own sanity/enjoyment as otherwise its a lot of stops for what should be a simple trip. Even going all the way as you suggest probably isn't out of the realms of reasonability (its all going in the right direction) and would almost certainly be allowed anyway.

However, I'm biased as I really like Chicago so stop there and enjoy the city before moving onto the slightly more dubious LAS ;)

Good new it sounds like we'll be allowed. We'll deffo have a couple of days at least in Chicago, don't worry!!

Also consider ORD-LAX/SFO-LAS - Least of all 3 class equipment does turn up on these routes every now and again between ORD and LAX/SFO...

Doesn't seem to be a viable routing according to the Star Alliance route finder.I suppose you will have to call to find out. If you give the agent your flights one at a time you never know.

han-bkk-nrt(stopover)-chc

It is over the 20% MPM, but just wanted to ask.

sjefenole Jun 10, 2010 11:39 pm

Is it bookable? (reward)

OSL-LHR (STOP)
LHR-EDI-EWR-BWI
22 hour layover
BWI-PHX-SEA
is that bookable as a one way reward?

what about just
OSL-LHR (STOP)
LHR-EDI-EWR-BWI
or
LHR-EDI-EWR-BWI
22 hour layover
BWI-PHX-SEA

Mr H Jun 11, 2010 12:17 am

I don't see why it shouldn't be bookable - it looks reasonable on a Great Circle mapper.

deconz Jun 11, 2010 12:22 am

but no stops allowed in Europe (a transit of less than 24 hours is the best you can get)

sjefenole Jun 11, 2010 3:23 am

So no stop in europe then...
In that case would this work?
LHR-EDI-EWR-DCA (business)

2 DAY STOP

BWI-PHX-SEA (first)

Does this trigger F or C miles?
