As of 2/12/14: We've had quite a few "Hey, come use this AWD. It's great" type of posts. When the AWD doesn't give a good discount, but is only posted to try to get renters to use the AWD of someone so the poster can earn free days from their Avis Corporate account. From here out, please put the company/trade group/etc that's associated with the AWD or we'll delete the post to keep it on-topic here.

Weird that its just auto-applying to rentals. I have never interacted with the AARP. A definite bummer that is replaced the Amazon deal I was really going for. Thanks for the reply!

Hey guys,
Does anyone recognize Avis AWD A271500?
It seemingly waives underage fees, no one way way drop fees, LDW, added driver & gives a solid discount.
I called Avis customer care and they all said something else.
some said it was a corporate AWD and some said it was a Avis small business AWD- not sure of the difference.
I would appreciate any help as I found zero information online.
thanks

This one is the best I can find for ORD. The nice part is that AARP code gives you free insurance that covers 100% damage with a $5K deductible.
I used to use the amazon employee discount which takes off 66%, but now you need an email address. It was glorious for like 5 years to where you actually pay a normal rate. No idea how Amazon employees get normal rates and all of us pay 3 times as much.

But if you are going to use AARP, you get the same car cheaper through budget.com and get the same insurance and perks like free 2nd drivers.
Basically AVIS is dead now. You wont ever get a cheaper price on avis.

The Avis/Budget AARP discount at participating U.S. locations also includes a small amount (25/50/10) of primary third-party liability insurance. That won't do much for you if you're responsible for causing a major accident, but might be just enough in the event of a relatively minor accident.

What would he have done if I said I dont have one?

I dont plan on using the code again in the future (so dont offer that solution in this case) but dont know what to do now in this situation. I was thinking of saying I got fired while on vacation and no longer have access to my email and was locked out with no notice. Im worried if when I return the car and the agent asks for it and I dont have it, what the result could be.
I missed this at the time - how did this end? My thoughts were that he would cover his a** and do nothing. In which city did this happen?

Question about the amazon code, my friend works for amazon. If he does the booking, can I be added as an additional driver for our leisure trip? And it includes cdw?

There is a code if you are an Amazon Prime. Pretty good rates plus you get a 10% Amazon cash card.

trip report on J323400

used at SLC, insane rate, free upgrade and included LDW

Got a text message with car info on it so didn't even need to talk to anyone - just scanned QR code from app and left

(in reality though when I arrived I got another text saying the car in the first text was no longer available, but talked to someone at the service desk and got another upgrade!)

Hello all, new person here but have been reading for awhile, curious to this situation

I booked an Avis rental on Costco travel and it added it to my Avis account, now I can see the discount and awd codes the Costco uses

If I go to Avis site and punch in those codes, I can get an even better rate with the pay now option instead of pay at counter rate which seems to match the costco price

What would you do? Cancel and rebook with these codes or keep the existing reservation, would I potentially get my rental rejected at time of pickup?

Nevermind - found I can modify my reservation on Avis and change to paynow and get the same pricing

Citigroup leisure code (A074800) does not ask for corporate email address but the rates are not so great (still better than anything else except Amazon D008400). Are they both equally risky asking for proof? Or is it safe to assume citigroup wont require id?

Thanks
Just wondering if you ended up using the Citigroup code and if they asked? I was able to book and i didn't see anything until the confirmation email that states:

Identity Verification Requirements This reservation was made using a corporate AWD (Avis Worldwide Discount Code) that requires validation of eligibility. Please be prepared to produce your company ID, business card, or a recent email with the companys email domain (e.g. xyzcompany.com) for employment verification purposes when picking up your vehicle.
Please note: Avis does not accept digital drivers licenses for rental. Please bring a hard copy of your drivers license at the time of rental.

I was hoping to do a pick up without going to the desk but wondering if this means I have to go verify?

Thanks!

I can't comment as I don't use the Citi code, or ones that I'm not entitled to use. However, one point of caution is that even if you are able to get the vehicle without them verifying your status, you're taking a significant risk on the liability. If there is an accident, they (Avis or your 3rd party insurance) would likely then verify your rental details. If they determine you're using a code you didn't qualify for, it would be considered fraud and they could invalidate the coverage/claim and you'd be on the hook for all damages.

A word of warning about using AWD codes you are not entitled to use. I have rented many times with Avis using a discount code associated with an education institution without issues.... All the way up until I had an accident in a rental car. Part of the AWD code was a reduction in the insurance deductible from $5000 down to $100. The process of reporting the accident required me to prove my association with the institution which I was not able to do. Avis initially attempted to void the rental agreement and went after me for the value of the vehicle plus lost business costs (approx. $25,000). I fought with them for nearly two years and was able to get the fee back down to the original deductible of $5000. I ended up giving in to the $5000 as they threatened to take me to court and claim that I used a discount code I was not entitled to use.
