Exactly. I'd buy a premium subscription in a heartbeat if Randy negotiated the best available deal for his FT community - a discount code which would be the lowest available (guaranteed by the travel provider) and only bookable through the FT booking engine (to be developed) so the provider is assured the discount can't be shared online and redeemed by non-affiliated persons.

If I knew I was getting the best possible deal, I wouldn't have to spend an hour chasing coupon codes or trying 50 different combinations of codes and coupons. Airlines could offer a 5% affinity discount and hotels could offer their standard corporate discount rate.

We are a market segment that every travel provider should be targeting and incentivizing - either that, or they need to stop bellyaching every time we use a code for 'XZY Corp'. At least they got our business - otherwise the rental/stay/ticket would have gone to another provider.

Fighting talk - I love it.

It is a shame that Mr Letts does not concern himself with security matters that concern me like the european stations where the cars are rented all from the same place miles away. Or the "Diesel" stickers on the side of the car. They might just as well say "I'm Avis. Steal me or From Me"

Quite ridiculous.

That's a great combination. Reliable code. I've used it for years.

To me, this attitude of Avis encourages double booking. If Avis will not give you the rate, walk away to the second reservation with another company. I don't think there is much they can say if they deny you the rate and you walk away.

nmenaker Feb 9, 2010 12:57 pm

oh, I almost always have a backup - although I think car rental companies are going to be dinging us for this in the near future - the no show fees.

but, I have also had the case that with a reservation, sometimes I walk up or go to another and ask what they have. I would say 50% of the time, I get a CHEAPER offer. then, I just ask the rep to cancel the one I have. :-)

Does anyone have a good AWD and Coupon code for a passenger van rental in Hong Kong?

nmenaker Feb 10, 2010 6:28 pm

Anyone have any good codes for one way rentals? Looking for something, I'm affiliated with EVERYTHING.

nmenaker Feb 10, 2010 6:38 pm

Anyone use the farmers code lately? A972200 I just checked it, it would drop my one way for tomorrow (thanks Stormageden) about 50$, which would help a LOT!

Any ideas about how many miles one gets, and if it customers since farmers IS my company

I never noticed that the discounts were affected by a one-way reservation.(using G417900) I do a lot of one ways, and the rate is always the same as rt. The only thing I have experienced is that almost none of the coupons can be used for 1 way.

gnaget Feb 11, 2010 4:14 pm

I saw the post above and tested A972200 for a one way rental between two airports and it offered a a rate which is half the other quotes. Thanks, nmenaker.

The catch is it only includes 125 miles but my trip is shorter, so it's perfect.

I have never seen a limited mileage rental offered in the US by a major car rental company. This is a good option. I am only renting the car for a few hours. Win-win situation, and yes, Lettsie-boy, I happen to have Farmer's insurance.

nmenaker Feb 11, 2010 5:32 pm

the rental I setup had NO MILES with it, but at .25 a mile it was still 60$ cheaper. Now, the downside. I had two reservations, I cancelled the more expensive one about seven hours before pickup - got the confirmation email and everything.

Picked up the rental for the variable one, drove it parked it, handed it back - what did they do, they gave me the rental which I HAD CANCELED. Haruphf!

Avis Venice Italy

FYI, I know there are a lot of discount AWDs posted for Italy that don't have a known association. I played with a lot of them for an upcoming rental and got a rate of ~230 Euros for a big car. When I used the Hilton HHonors AWD (K851000) I got a rate of ~240 Euros. Whenever I tried any of the odd codes, it would fault out at the last page due to "technical errors" but had no problem confirming with the HHonors AWD.

Sure, Avis can cancel your reservation or blacklist you - but corporations do not prosecute people, only the government has the right to do that - and using a discount code you're not entitled to is not a criminal offense of fraud, unless you use the code to avoid paying for damage to the car (i.e., it includes LDW) - and even that would be hard to prove and likely very low on the list of priorities for any urban prosecutor's office.

Maybe Avis can sue you - but is this really the correct way to handle it?

So, let him blow his fire and brimstone - the only real risk any of us have is losing a reservation or getting blacklisted from Avis. If they want to get rid of me as a customer because I'm using a code that saves me $5-10 a day and got my business instead of it going to a competitor, well they are dumber than they appear to be.

whats to stop a person from setting up an alternative account and just use their work address? just use a different credit card and their goes the blacklist or am I missing something here

there are many ways to skin a cat or at least beat the avis threats and system

Not fair.
I'd reckon you could fight that one.

There is a thread in the ba forum that is discussing (among other things) making avis bookings via avisba.com - I Just canceled my avis.com reservation & rebooked the same car via avisba.com. My rental went from $250USD down to about $140USD.

Sorry I have no link making skills but The ba thread is called "Car Rental in USA via ba.com"

Unless you live in the UK, be sure to change the country of residence on the top right. The rates will be dramatically different, but if you don't do it, they're not likely to honor the rate. The rates offered to UK residents generally exclude US residents and those with US driver's licenses.

Hi there. Any good codes for a PHX one-way rental, in March? We are arriving 3/16 and departing from Vegas 3/24. This is during Spring training so a lot of the codes I've found don't work. We'd prefer an SUV but since the rates I've found are over $1200 for the 8 days, we'll probably have to just go with a full-size car.

I love using A113400, but now, when I login to my account and use it, the rates triple!

Has anyone else seen a discrepancy between being logged in and not? I want my Preferred perks (car waiting) but I don't want to pay triple for it!

No one at Avis ever cared about which country you indicated.

Yes I am finding the same thing. I was booking a one-way out of BOS and got a quote of $610 when signed in and $154 when not signed in. Avis Fist doesn't do much for me anyway....

Same code was used in orlando. Get to counter and denied use of code so, bit the bullet and asj=ked for full price. Offered a compact instead of Mini Van reserved. Out of Minivans. Not only was code gonged, car wasn't reserved.

How can you use this code if you're not a Florida State employee? Don't they ask for proof?

I tried all codes posted in the last 20 pages, but none made a difference. Looking to rent 3 weeks in May, ZRH.

Could use some codes for FAI
and one for Skagway

These would be one day rentals
while on a cruise.

I just tried this code and the rate was great, BUT, it's limited to 125 miles per day. Don't let that huge crab bite you in your butt!

cepmom Mar 8, 2010 5:24 pm

looking for a good code to use for a one way rental in CA. Looking specifically at Avis as they seem to be one of the only rental agencies that does not assess a drop charge for one way rentals.

Anyway, A113400 gives me the best rate by far but I fear that I will be asked for some sort of ID. I have a backup reservation for a full size car using W661100 (Choice rewards code) but I am afraid a full size might not be big enough for the 5 of us and our luggage. Any experience with A113400 lately? ALso, what type of car besides an Impala have you found at Avis?

I've used the Farmers Code twice in the past month - still great rates. Do watch miles though, it is not unlimited miles like most of them. Between that code and my Presidents Circle with Avis I do pretty well renting intermediate and full-sized cars and drive away typically in one of their "cool cars" or luxury.

Corp Travel - Underage Fee

Hey everyone,

First time traveling for corp purposes and have a ? about underage fees. I was told by my boss that our AWD # waives the fee, but was told over the phone by an AVIS rep that they do not waive it at all except for military. Any experience with this? I will be renting from LAX.

I have to stay within a certain $$ amount per day, and I can assure you the $27/day fee will throw me way off! I can't afford any "surprises" at the rental counter.
