Hi,

Which specific code is B270XXX? It doesn't work in either Avis or Budget, I presume the "XXX" is you hiding those numbers. Would you care sharing?

Also, on the specific point of insurance...if you have an Amex Platinum or any standalone insurance, wouldn't this be covered?

thanks

Hi,

The code is B270898.

My Platinum card covers up to 5,000USD…not enough for a BMW 7 Series 😅 that costs more than 75,000 USD ;)

I think you meant $50,000 as opposed to $5,000 for the Amex coverage.

Additionally, using a corporate CDP that includes insurance is just asking for trouble. If you had an accident in a $75K BMW 7-series and you totaled the car, would you really want to take the chance that the included insurance would cover you when you used a discount code for a company you don't even work for?

Indeed, using AWD is at your own risk. However, that specific code is not associated with an actual company. I have to admit that I don’t know all the legal issues that you may encounter in case of accident… it is a very sharp law topic.

Thanks for the prompt answer and it's a fair enough point.

The insurance angle is the only element that deters me from using one of these codes. I have car hire insurance through my credit card and am sure it covers ~$50k damage to the car, and ~$500k damage to another person or property, but am confused on whether it would kick in on an AWD...
  1. For AWDs that do not have insurance included, if you're in an accident what happens? I cannot find many instances of this...given how much rampant (mis)use of these public codes there is I can't understand why there aren't any more data points on this...any input appreciated!
  2. For AWDs that do have insurance included, as I understand it, if you're involved in an accident the car rental agency would contact the corporation on the discount code to discuss insurance, which would be invalid because of the above. Is there a potential criminal case here as well?
I have a former employer's code which heavily discounts the price, but includes insurance and I'm unable to remove it from the reservation so don't want to use it.

Thanks!

Not sure where you are getting your information from, but that AWD was originally for Peregrine Systems which went bankrupt and was acquired by Hewlett Packard in 2005.

Not that it matters, but my immediate upcoming rental was for only 2 days and the delta in price from the cheapest code I could find after an extremely lengthy search here to a 'legit' route was approx ~$25.

Opted for the legit route as I'm happy to pay that and not incur a potential risk. Over a longer rental, where the $$$ add up, I will most definitely recur to one of these codes!

Hey guys
Does anyone have a working code for Greece? Looking to rent a car in September and the prices are pretty high!
Thanks

Booked a week rental in Denver using code B449700. Turns out it's for Hitachi and they did ask for validation. Good thing we had a backup reservation using a Hilton Honors code.

Interesting because DEN is a QuickPass location -- so you should have no interaction with anyone there

Are you not a Preferred member and eligible to use QuickPass? Or were you stopped at the car exit gate? (Which with QuickPass, there actually isn't even anyone at the gate)

Why would you be suspicious of it? Quick search through the thread shows it:
  • Seldom gets asked for ID verification
  • Does not include insurance of any type, meaning you can use your own provided by say a credit card
  • Tends to be quite beneficial in terms of discounts
What are you afraid of exactly?

For a start - it does include insurance in the UK - except the first £1000. I carry insurance for that. SInce you ask - yes I have been asked for verification on one occasion at LHR T5. I took the car anyway - and the rate was sorted by the team at LGW that I knew well. It is a concern that one day someone will ask me for ID as has happened to others here and that I would not be permitted to have a car which could not only be embarrassing but highly inconvenient, The discount in this case took the rate so low that I was concerned that it might be an Avis Employee rate.

I don't have anything to add to the conversation but I am curious what rate you got as you say it was very low? So how much was it and for how many days? And I am assuming this is at LHR.?

It was actually the downtown Denver location (Broadway, I think). I still had to go talk to a person at a counter.

Its a great discount if they'll let you do it!! I read about the insurance things as am cautious about renting with a code that may cause me issues later.
