Does anyone know if Lifemiles will waive cancellation fees for an award ticket due to COVID-19 concerns?
Unfortunately, barring an outright flight cancellation, Lifemiles will not waive cancel fees.
Just pay the $200 as a "self caution fee". (nobody is actually preventing you the passenger from flying as you booked).
In the future, it would be wise to invest in travel insurance.

Transferring Amex MR points will extend expiration of LM. Post #906 confirms this. Expiration date updates overnight, so wait 24 hours after the transferred miles have posted to LM.

LifeMiles' Star Alliance Award Chart

Cash & Miles redemptions: the price per mile purchased during award booking varies significantly depending on how many miles are purchased. The "sweet spots" are between 38% and 58% of the total mileage required, where miles are purchased for 1.5 cents. See here for some examples.

Beware of Cabotage: LifeMiles has been known to issue tickets that constitute Cabotage, and at least one instance of denied boarding has been reported, stranding the passenger. An example is travel on Avianca from LAX to SJU (via SAL/BOG). For additional information see the WIKI of this thread.

https://www.lifemiles.com/eng/abo/wnb/wnbtercond.aspx
Miles Expiration Policy valid from April 15th , 2018.
  1. Any miles accrual transaction in a member´s account in the Program extends the validity of the miles in the account of such member for a term of twelve (12) months from the date of such accrual of miles. Other transactions that may affect the balance of miles in a member’s account, including redemption transactions, will have no effect on them and will not extend the validity of the miles in such account. This general rule will have the following exceptions that extend the validity of such miles in the account of such member for twenty-four (24) months from the date of such accrual: (i) any accrual of miles in a member´s account with an Elite Status at the time of the accrual; (ii) any accrual of miles derived from a cobranded credit or debit cards under the LifeMiles brand.
  2. ......the following accrual activities do not extend the validity of the miles in the member´s account: 1) the birthday bonus or any other miles bonus that may be given by the LifeMiles Program and LifeMiles LTD so establishes.; 2) the migration of points or miles from other loyalty programs to the LifeMiles Program made as a consequence of the union of both loyalty programs or the migration of one member from another loyalty program to the LifeMiles Program; and 3) the merger of accounts of the LifeMiles Program, including those derived from a member´s duplicate accounts.

pointvortex Thanks for your reply, but how did you get the ET reference code?

LM should be able to give it to you. The same is true for other airlines- I’ve booked EY via AA and that has separate reference codes.

I got a schedule change email from ET which contained it.

Most sites require one to enter the adult's confirmation number if one is trying to book a separate ticket for a minor say a 10yo. I managed to get to the credit card page without such a prompt. Obviously I will have a separate reservation, wondering if it is possible to get a ticket ticketed for a minor or it won't ticket despite payment or without submission of documentation of a separate ticket .
this would be for an award booking.

What's Avianca longhaul Business class like?

I'm considering booking some travel with Avianca and was hoping for a reality-check before doing so.

I'm looking at an overnight Avianca flight from LAX to BOG winter 2024. Would be an award flight (on Avianca metal, booked with United miles). Search results show it's a 787-8, nonstop LAX-BOG. I've never flown Avianca before, but am reading lots of unfavorable comments/reviews.

For me, most of the benefit of business class is about the seat, and specifically getting some solid sleep on a long, overnight flight. The business class seats in Avianca's 787 looks perfectly OK for that. Food and service, maybe not so good, but that's not as important to me. I wouldn't mind having an edible meal but I don't need (or expect) the caviar and champage. The flight price and schedule work for me (better than other alternatives that would all a good sleeping environment).

I see references below to aircraft swaps on this route. How likely is it that my flight booked on a 787 will actually be on that 787, versus an older aircraft with no lay-flay seats? Any recent experiences on this LAX-BOG route?

Thanks for your insights.

I'm taking that flight in November, and hoping for the best!

I just had LifeMiles offer me (in the website search results) a routing into NRT then out of HND, so I guess coterminal connections are possible.

I'm looking for flights from Europe to US but the availability is very sparse, is that because of high season ? I can literally not find any flights between FRA/MUC and any US city within the next 2-3 weeks

The LifeMiles search engine appears to be completely nonfunctional for the time being (literally). I would be inclined to wait a few days. if you plug in start and finish and then search; the search is much too quick for anything to be happening in the background.

I'm stuck, I'm trying to transfer Avios from BA to IB. I don't think that Iberia wants my middle name or the Jr at the end. I'm thinking that because I am in BA's site to transfer the Avios I get an immediate rejection so BA is looking at something that is not the same. So my question is: what needs to match when I am trying to transfer Avios the information in the "Personal Details' or the "Advance Passenger Information"?

I have an account with both but nothing is working. Alternatively, would it be possible to create an account on Avios.com and move Avios from BA to them and then to IB or would I have the same issue? Thanks

1. I think you posted in the Avianca Lifemiles forum, albeit in Newbie flame free lounge - may be by mistake . May be you will get better answers in Qatar/ BA forum

2. The first name , middle name, last name, DOB, address on both BA Executive Club and Qatar Privilege Club must match EXACTLY . Otherwise you can’t link the account which you need to do before transferring Avios to and fro. You can also link Iberia with all information matching exactly

What's the best course of action to book a flight sequence that does not show up on LM but appears on UA/Aeroplan/ANA/etc.

I.e USA-FRA-VCE via LH, but LM is only giving me the option with the shortest layover when UA/Aeroplan lets me select 3-4 different layover durations.

I know people have mentioned the screenshot method, but I am worried staff will not respond in time.

I would greatly appreciate any insight. Thank you!

Is there an technical problem with the site for retro credit? I'm trying to claim retro credit from within my LifeMiles account using the "missing miles" link and all I get is a blank page on multiple browsers.

I see the same issue. I recently flew United SFO-AMS in P and I think that is supposed to credit at 200%? I only got 100% (5,473 miles).
Edit: Should have known to credit to Aeroplan which is the only one at 150%.

Why would anyone credit to LM when they sell their miles so regularly and so cheaply?
