Does anyone know if Lifemiles will waive cancellation fees for an award ticket due to COVID-19 concerns?
Unfortunately, barring an outright flight cancellation, Lifemiles will not waive cancel fees.
Just pay the $200 as a "self caution fee". (nobody is actually preventing you the passenger from flying as you booked).
In the future, it would be wise to invest in travel insurance.

Transferring Amex MR points will extend expiration of LM. Post #906 confirms this. Expiration date updates overnight, so wait 24 hours after the transferred miles have posted to LM.

LifeMiles' Star Alliance Award Chart

Cash & Miles redemptions: the price per mile purchased during award booking varies significantly depending on how many miles are purchased. The "sweet spots" are between 38% and 58% of the total mileage required, where miles are purchased for 1.5 cents. See here for some examples.

Beware of Cabotage: LifeMiles has been known to issue tickets that constitute Cabotage, and at least one instance of denied boarding has been reported, stranding the passenger. An example is travel on Avianca from LAX to SJU (via SAL/BOG). For additional information see the WIKI of this thread.

https://www.lifemiles.com/eng/abo/wnb/wnbtercond.aspx
Miles Expiration Policy valid from April 15th , 2018.
  1. Any miles accrual transaction in a member´s account in the Program extends the validity of the miles in the account of such member for a term of twelve (12) months from the date of such accrual of miles. Other transactions that may affect the balance of miles in a member’s account, including redemption transactions, will have no effect on them and will not extend the validity of the miles in such account. This general rule will have the following exceptions that extend the validity of such miles in the account of such member for twenty-four (24) months from the date of such accrual: (i) any accrual of miles in a member´s account with an Elite Status at the time of the accrual; (ii) any accrual of miles derived from a cobranded credit or debit cards under the LifeMiles brand.
  2. ......the following accrual activities do not extend the validity of the miles in the member´s account: 1) the birthday bonus or any other miles bonus that may be given by the LifeMiles Program and LifeMiles LTD so establishes.; 2) the migration of points or miles from other loyalty programs to the LifeMiles Program made as a consequence of the union of both loyalty programs or the migration of one member from another loyalty program to the LifeMiles Program; and 3) the merger of accounts of the LifeMiles Program, including those derived from a member´s duplicate accounts.

jdhnyc with the exception of flights entirely inside Colombia, your sister will also only earn 50% if she credits the miles to Avianca.

Yikes, I hadn't realized that! Thanks for pointing it out. That knocks them down a peg in that respect since none of the flights are entirely inside Colombia. Any advice on which you would choose, Avianca or United, given those circumstances?

I don't know to be honest. Maybe it would be better to ask in the Star Alliance forum "where to park AV miles?" My AV flights are all inside Colombia

Is anyone else having issues with booking flights in EVA originating from HKG? I've tried a variety of dates in Jan & Feb '15, destination LAX or SFO and continue to receive this error no matter what date and EVA flight I select to proceed with booking (no error for other airlines that show up):
"Sorry, There was problem while processing your transaction.
Please try again. If the problem persists or you need additional information please contact LifeMiles Support."
These EVA flights appear as available in search results, I'm just not able to proceed after flight selection to complete transaction. Tried both Chrome and Firefox. Is this a known issue? Fluke? Should I just call in since there looks to be availability?

Other EVA flights originating from TPE to elsewhere don't seem to trigger this error. I can't imagine that every HKG>SFO and HKG>LAX flight in Jan/Feb '15 is already completely gone for all classes (*esp* when availability is being shown in the search results).

TIA

Nevermind, I ended up calling Avianca call center and they are having the same booking issue as me even though the flights are showing as available for them too, and they just recommended I try again in a couple hours (even though it's been 24 hours for me by this point).

Does anybody offer an award booking service using "trick-it" techniques with LifeMiles?

If you know of someone who does, please let me know who.

If you do so yourself, please PM me. I am a very experienced traveller, already have 40k+ LifeMiles and have a very flexible business class request.

Thanks.

Ticketing

I have a general question. When you make an award booking using Lifemiles and the airline eg Thai or Singapore changes their flight schedule, even if its just a 5 minute change, does the ticket need to be reissued? Do Avianca then charge you the change fee? Just had a horrendous experience with Avianca in terms of cancelling an award so want to know what I am in for if I book a Thai flight on Aviance points in the event Thai change the flight time. Thanks

a time change does not require a re-issue

AV needs to inform you of the change and see if the ticket requires revalidation. If the flight number stayed the same a reissue is not required. SQ, TG and AV all use Amadeus Altea for ticketing, so the tickets should be aligned automatically. If the connection time is infringed, then a rebooking and subsequent reissue is required, but that would show on your reservation.

IF you keep an eye on it! AV are notorious for ignoring to notify pax about cancellations/MCT violations and so on!

I redeemed an award ticket with lifemiles few weeks ago. The itinerary is YYZ-NRT//HND-PVG and the layover between first and second segment is 5 hours.

However yesterday when I checked on checkmytrip i found AC changed schedule of my first segment, and the layover for me to connect flight is only 1 hour 35 minutes.
For sure 1hour 35 minutes is less than MCT to change the flight between HND and NRT.
Should I contact Lifemiles immediately to let them rebook my ticket?

Yes you should! But better find an alternative first yourself and hope you get a good agent.....
I tend to keep it simple with LM so these things cannot happen.
