Also check Delta.com: Sometimes better offers might be available there.

The Amex referral page has a 60K offer for the Delta Personal card.

The following offers for up to 70K on personal and business:

https://www.delta.com/content/www/en....html#Platinum

valid through 04/11/2018

There are several 60, 000 miles offers for the personal card with the first year annual fee waived the first year, valid through May 1, 2019. They are listed in this referral thread. These are way better than the current standard public offer of 30,000 miles shown on Delta's website

Gold Personal:
"Earn 60,000 bonus miles after you make $2,000 in purchases on your new Card within your first 3 months and $1000 more w/in 6 months and a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months."
https://www.americanexpress.com/us/c...elta-skymiles/

A post on Reddit suggests that you can find a 50K offer, but with a $100 credit, by doing a dummy booking on Delta.com.
The offer should appear before you have to pay for the flight. [Did [b]not work when I booked a flt today, 3/15/17.]

Gold Business:

Note: Review the recent discussion in the thread about various other ways to try to locate offers as high as 50k+$50 credit.

Getting the statement credit:
MrMoonlight successfully purchased a Delta ecert (essentially a gift card) and received the statement credit. See this post..
Jacobsta811 also received $50 credit for $50 e-cert on both gold business and gold personal cards.
muji received $100 credit for $50 eCert on Delta Platinum card
sdsearch received $100 credit for $50 eCert on business Platinum card (see this post).
vah4883 received $100 credit for $5.6 tax on Platinum card
philemer received $100 credit for buying a box lunch on board

A few reports of success with accounts closed ~ 4 years, but I speculate that those examples may have involved cards which were converted from one color to another (which seems to confuse the history). I would call customer service and ask if they show that you have ever held a personal Skymiles Platinum card. If they say yes, I wouldn't apply. If they say no, it's worth a shot even though the system may find it later.

Delta Amex promos ending 11/8/17

Gold is 50k DL miles, Platinum is 70k DL miles.

AF on Gold is waived first year while AF on Platinum is $195, no waiver.

I guess these are the most miles they've ever offered, though I've gotten the miles promo from Gold a couple of times.

I can't recall if I ever had the Platinum DL Amex. I don't think so but I don't fly DL at all -- used my last award last year and haven't been trying to get status on them in at least 5 years.

Surprised there isn't more discussion of these. Kind of tempted to try the Platinum DL Amex.

True.

But I also have some MR points so I can transfer some to DL and then redeem.

Only thing that makes me hesitate is that I'm at 5/24 until April. Though I really am not looking at any other Chase cards in the next year.

Get the Business version. Chase can't "see" it. 70K going, going gone.

I just did some sample award searches on DL and UA.

DL just requires more miles.

My $50 credit triggered just fine when I spent, IIRC, $59 to attach a 3K Mileage booster to an existing flight reservation segment. (Didn't feel like messing with the gift card route at the time and figured that $9 net was a reasonable charge for the miles purchase)

If you have an opportunity to earn bonus Delta miles, but no opportunity to earn bonus United miles, how important is the comparsison?

Well I've been going for UA status for the last 5 years so I have one flight booked next year and will purchase more.

The 70k miles will get me exactly half way towards a J Saver TATL award on DL, typically 2-stops.

I got 80k UR points from Ink Preferred a couple of months ago. The J Saver TATL awards on UA, based on the searches I did this afternoon, are 120k and they're more typically 1-stop.

I didn't really look at TPAC awards but I did search SFO-AKL on DL and the lowest I could find is 360k. There were some over 800k.

What is DL smoking?

That's on DL metal, I presume. That's because for DL metal, DL has a broad range of tiers, rather than just "saver" and "standard". I think results might be different for partner metal.

But just because it usually requires more miles, doesn't mean it always requires more miles. Plus, some places DL might get you in a reasonable routing UA can't. Or sometimes UA doesn't have Saver availability at all, and is DL always more even in those cases?
Happy likes this.

I'm not saying I did an exhaustive search. Just looked at what I typically might search.

There were some SkyTeam segments but yeah, I didn't see any AF TATL segments, so it seems little has changed.

The other thing is that DL may have (its own metal) saver fares only for certain travel dates. A couple years ago I was looking to go AMS in spring, to time it for the Keukenhof flower show, and DL only had saver business redemptions on some dates in April, and then none ever in May/June/July/etc. I wasn't even expecting to find DL saver fares, I was doing a search on the Alaska Airlines website (back when it still partnered with DL) and that's how I discovered that DL had saver fares for my travel dates. It was when I went to the DL site and experimented with dates that I found that they only had them for "shoulder season" so to speak.

Did you or your wife actually make the purchase onboard with your wife's card? I haven't flown DL for a while but I have a flight this Friday with them and I can't remember if they check photo ID with card purchases or if they just "swipe away" (or insert card) like most retailers seem to do these days, especially for small purchases.

Reason I ask, is that my dad just got the Amex Platinum Delta card and he would like to trigger his $100 statement credit but he doesn't fly DL until a little bit after his first 3-month window expires. So I was thinking maybe I could use his card to buy something onboard (with his permission, of course). I don't really want to get an AU card on his account for myself, plus probably wouldn't get it in time at this point for my upcoming flight.

Thanks in advance for anyone's guidance on this.

They won't be checking ID or bps. Shouldn't be a problem.
