This thread is a continuation of discussion which began HERE in 2011. It was very active in 2014, read HERE.

Referrals and self-referrals are an important part of churning Canadian-issued American Express cards. It is appropriate to discuss how the referral process works in this thread. However, please do not offer or request referrals here.

Use only this thread, and do read the Wikipost carefully before posting:

Referral Offers (post only in this thread, no referral links, read Wiki post first).

JerryHung: I figure I'll include all CURRENT AMEX Canada offers here (no referral links) for anyone curious about what the bonus and fees are
This is not an all-inclusive list, only the "good" offers, so feel free to add new offers

AMEX Gold Rewards - $150/year, FYF, 25K MR after $500 spending + $50 cashback from GCR
(as of Jan 11, 2016 Gold card will no longer earn referral points.)

I made a couple of referrals from plat to gold in the past and the referral bonus posted as soon as my friends' applications were approved.

Could anyone comment on AMEX SPG referral bonuses? Do you get them fast or will they get posted when the next monthly statement is issued ?

Thanks

Amex referrals get posted within days of approval. then it can take up to 5 days to transfer to SPG (my experience has been more like 2-3).

Amex referral + transfer is faster.
^ agree with above

UNLESS your SPG statement is coming up shortly (e.g. mine was Nov 10th) that you can time it in time

1. so the referral route is still churnable or YMMV?

2. Anyone know if apply 2 AE in same day, will count 1 hit or 2 hit?

3. AE's policy still max 2 CC+2 Charge card? and SMB CC also counts on your own CC?

Thanks!

I got declined for the SPG Business card after being approved for the regular one (it was a system decline)... I have called and asked them to reopen the application and split credit between my existing SPG card and the business card, since I do not really need the extra credit. Will this work? ( I am sure other people have been successful with this)

Depends on how much credit they are willing to give you. You can have 2 SPG cards (1 personal 1 biz) but your max credit must be split between the 2 cards. I just applied for another SPG biz with another company name. I cancelled my first biz card a few weeks ago.

It's getting close to year end so who knows if these SPG promos will be cut back.

Well that's what I want - for them to split the credit between the personal, which I have already, and the business. I don't see why they wouldn't be able to do this but I don't know

I didn't call and ask them to just split the limit because I want the self referral / sign up bonus

Sorry, I mean to say I did not call them "at first". I applied for the card, then called in to be told that I got declined... then I let them know I do not want additional credit and asked them to reopen the application for an actual person to have a look at... Told them to put that I do not want additional credit in the notes...

How AMEX charge SPG CC annual fee?

All,

I have one question. What if I apply AMEX SPG CC in Nov. and if it approves,
I need to pay $120 as annual fee. But, does first $120 is only for the rest of 2015 and do I need to pay $120 again in Jan. 2016?

How does AMEX charge annual fee in general? By calendar year or 12 month cycle which means that I will pay my second annual fee in Nov. 2016?

I closed my Amex airmiles and aeroplan cards earlier this year.I am still able to generate referral links by providing the closed amex card number's.I read that one of the terms to receive referral points is that the account must be in good standing(which I presume to include being open)Even thought the amex accounts are closed, the airmiles and aeroplan accounts attached to the closed amex accounts are open

Has anyone received referral points by using referral links off closed accounts?

I would be shocked if this happened. The card is closed, dead, gone. Only returns can go on the card.

Yah man....but I'm talkin' bout points man.The aeroplan and airmile accounts associated with the closed accounts are alive and kicking!

If the closed accounts could still generate referral links, the referral points can still be credited to the aeroplan or airmile accounts.

I tell you what....hows about we test this.

Someone like to pm me,I can provide referral links to test this!

I don't think there was a limit on charge cards nor is there a limit for new applications.

once the account is closed, the association to the FFP account is no longer valid. hence, any points earn (or deduction ) will not happen.
