I received the card itself in a normal envelope and the fancy looking box with benefits guide in a separate mailing. This was in April.

Just got Mrs ma's in a box. Interestingly it was under the 50k offer and it came through showing $0 fee for the first year. Not going to complain about that ! but will try to bump now to 100k.....

Just got shot down for 5478. I opened my card in December and they said that was too early for that bonus code, and now my account has been 'notated' with that information. 
FWIW I got a distinctly American lady on the phone.
EDIT: Yay, bonus 3882 worked!
Data points: Member since 2006, MR since 2010
PR Gold and Plat card both opened same day in Dec 2010
PR Gold 25k initially, upped to 75k
Plat 50k initially, upped to 100k
I think amex might have me hooked for life now.

Does anyone know the expiration date for 5478. Still trying to decide whether to apply today for the 25k and then shoot for an extra 75k? Has anyone else done this really recently. Don't want the card for 25k, but if there's a strong chance of getting the extra 75, I'd do it.

Just the following "I recd 50K points and now I found out that Amex was offering 100K points with bonus ID XXXX. Now I am not happy about it and wondering if you will be willing to give 50K extra points as they are offering to others"?

I just spoke with a supervisor and someone else in the executive offices and they both told me promotion ID 3882 does not exist . They say all their promotions start with a Letter and number . Liars .
I am livid and told them I am subsidizing new customers and they would not budge . I am livid

YAY!
After reading this thread, I realized I was eliglble for this promo too. I called AMEX, explained the situation, and in two minutes, was confirmed eligiblity and immediately awarded the additional 50,000 MR point in my account. Way to go AMEX on this one!

I signed up a couple of months ago with the 50k bonus. Seems people have had good success with a PM(private Message?) to get the additional 50k. How do you send a PM?

Applied for Plat under 4986 (50k after $1k). Called today and they annotated account that once I reach the $1k spend I will get the additional 50k under 5748. Big thumbs up

i would be cautious if Amex "promised" the extra 50K points if you haven't reached the 1K spend. I called in towards the beginning of this thread and the agent said it would be no problem for the additional 50K after I reached the 1K spend. However, I called back today now that i've met the spend to make sure everything was good to go and now they said they're not willing extend the 50K points to me. The decision came from corporate apparently. I don't know what to do...im a bit disappointed because i was expecting the points. I might try to call back.. and elevate it to a supervisor. but im sure im blacklisted now
