AA Plat Pro, do we have remote chance of getting upgraded to Transcon Business? We will fly on either Halloween night or Nov 1, LAX to JFK.

I have a trip booked in X fare on AS metal ANC-LAS-SFO, and SFO-ANC. Questions:
1. Should I credit to AS (I can match my UA Silver to MVP before the flight), or AA (I have PlatPro from Hyatt Globalist challenge)? It looks like AA is 10% and AS is 30% of miles flown? But not sure if the higher AA status would get me more miles - wheretocredit site seems outdated. 2. Are AA Platpros eligible for upgrade on AS X fares? It looks like AS elites are eligible but unclear about AA elites? TIA! |
Flying BA metal from PHX/LHR on AA award ticket and was upgraded at the gate to Business. Shocked but happy! The flight was totally full.
I now have almost as many upgrades on BA as AA (EXP) 😊. |
Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but can you pay with cash or miles to get a confirmed upgrade from economy to business on a BA flight booked through AA? Context is - I have some upcoming work travel but can only book economy through our travel portal. Flying BER to LHR to LAX, and I want to book whichever way will give me the best chance to upgrade the LHR to LAX route. The best itinerary I can see is all on BA, but I can book through either BA or AA. Would be happy to use cash or miles for either, but I'm not sure how likely it is that AA will have an offer to get a confirmed upgrade in advance.

If you book through AA, you can upgrade with AA miles on BA metal flights with 2 major caveats: 1) Upgrades are only one class at a time, i.e. from economy > premium economy. So to upgrade to business you need to buy premium economy. 2) These upgrades require full fares, which are typically very expensive. You can usually just buy discount business cheaper than a full fare premium economy. There's a reason these upgrades are discussed so little here, they're all but useless in most cases due to #1 and #2 above. Details: AA.com - Upgrade With Miles |

Lax to ord tomorrow ..upgraded at T-24 for myself and companion. No such love on ord to lax a few days ago..we were 5 and 6 on the upgrade list. Low level EXP.

Data Point: AA 1290, ORD-DFW Sat 7 Sept
37 on the list for upgrade to First, 0 cleared. Status of people on list unclear, I coughed up the cash when they added LP’s for upgrades 10 on standby list, all cleared. Honestly, on this route, a literal zero chance or normal upgrades most of the time. |
Monday Sep 2 2024 | MIA - JFK | AA1357
Five open seats in First at T-24 Cleared at the gate a minute before boarding, 4th on the list I was surprised no-one bought up, but also they were going for ~$300 with 5 seats open |

I’m sitting around 70% success as EXP out of CLT for domestic upgrades.
My partner and I both have separate flights to and from LHR. She left last week with the SWU clearing 10 days in advance. I leave this week and got the same 10 days. Both of us on the flight back looks incredibly unlikely. We have another LHR trip in November, which I’m hoping we clear SWU on. As above; I typically leave applying the upgrade for a while to see what the buy up looks like, with an alert set on expertflyer for C. |
DEN-DFW, A321, ~1230PM, Sunday: did not clear
DFW-LHR, 777-200, ~615PM (AA50), Sunday: SWU applied and cleared ~18 hours prior to departure by calling in when availability was showing on AA.com |
Last week:
TPA-DCA - Did not clear #1/28 DCA-ROC Cleared T-100 ROC-ORD Cleared T-100 ORD-DFW Cleared T-100 DFW-TPA Did not clear #5/40 ~335K 12 month rolling LPs |
