How is the PHX-KOA route ? Does an award ticket lower the chance much for exec plat ?

JFK-EZE SWU Cleared 62 hours

For some time now award tickets have been equal to paid tickets when it comes to upgrade list priority. It makes no difference.

AA Plat Pro, do we have remote chance of getting upgraded to Transcon Business? We will fly on either Halloween night or Nov 1, LAX to JFK.

KOA> PHX Can I make the assumption that this is a leisure route and I will get complimentary upgrades if Exec Plat? Or am I wrong to assume anything?. The day I want has 8 seats in First open.

Remote chance - yes. Likely chance - no.

With AA selling upgrades in-app and on the web, it is wrong to assume that you will ever get complimentary upgrades IMO. Even on leisure routes. One could say especially on leisure routes. Lots of people buying up.

I'd recommend monitoring your reservation for a cash upgrade offer that might be decent/generous. Would never assume any more even as an EXP you will get an upgrade except for CLT/MIA on the 772 and some E175/CR900 flights.

I'm PP and got upgraded on CVG-BOS at T-25 hours yesterday. The upgrade timing has been so annoying lately. First class was wide open (only one seat taken before my upgrade) and when the waitlist came out I saw that I was the only one eligible for a complementary upgrade (the list says zero people on it and there is only my seat and the one other one taken in first right now). If this wasn't the scenario for me to get upgraded at T-72 hours then what is?

Cleared two SWUs on ORD-VCE last night, 8/28. Question for the group, has anyone seen this before. Three people all on the same PNR, booked into Premium Economy.

Upgrade list priority/waitlist.
1. Exec Plat
2. Plat
3. Exec Plat

Gate agent ended up doing 1 and 3 at the gate, but curious how the Plat got a higher priority. All using my SWUs, I was number one.

Saw this on a CDG-ORD flight a few years ago where the Plat was number 1 and cleared the upgrade instead of the Exec Plat

In order to keep everyone together on the waitlist the system has to "attach" the lower/no status pax to the higher status pax. So in this case they attached the PLT to you, which slotted them just behind you, then the other EXP(s).

AA further deminishes SWUs value

We know that AA is selling upgrades cheaply on lightly sold long hauls.
Major problem is that if you are SWU upgrade listed, you won't see those offers or get the chance to buy the seat that is being sold from under you.
So little for the benefits you earned by status.

This is extremely old "news" and has been discussed to death here.

I for one, as an EXP who flies a lot of longhaul Y, am perfectly happy to have cheap buy up options sometimes available to supplement my limited SWUs.

SWUs hardly ever clear in advance of a day or two before the flight anyway. If you want to see the offers, just don't apply the SWU until close in tothe flight. Not really losing anything...easy.

EZE-MIA //JFK SWU

Domestic segment cleared three days in advance. C space became available at T-24hr, no UG, with flight being zeroed out. Ended up at #2/11 for the flight, at T-20m got the UG to J. With #1 & #2 clearing.
