Update: @ 11:11 AM, I received a message about our flight having been rebooked, 15,000 miles X 2 taken out of my account, and a charge of $75 X" 2 for "Your recent AAdvantage Award Redemption." At least I did not need to call in this time, was able to select our meals before the 24' deadline, and got the upgrade.

DFW-LHR SWU applied and cleared at least a week before, but got no notice so no idea when it cleared and was only able to select the last middle seat in F.

Update #2 - Got the upgrade, but still showed #4 on the upgrade waitlist @ the airport with 1 open seat available. Glad I requested a milage upgrade! A few other odd things: Mrs R was NOT on the upgrade list as a companion pax on the same PNR and they had HER meal choice noted on board, but not mine. No PDBs offered.

All in all - nice flight though.

I have a flight DFW-SEA today. EF showing J1 Y0. On seat maps there are 7 business seats, and only 2 economy seats. However on the waitlist there are 8 seats available to upgrade fo First.

Is it because AA holding J seats for upgrades so they can clear standby?

Yes, for a flight thats Y0 with that many open seats in business economy is most likely oversold. AA is holding back business to make room for the Y oversale.

Weird question that I haven't experienced before...Flying DFW-AKL. I purchased the in-app upgrade to Premium Economy and then called to request a mileage upgrade to J. Agent put me on the waitlist and then quoted the (lower) mileage rate of 15,000 miles to upgrade to waitlist. Does the in-app upgrade truly classify my ticket as Premium Economy and as such, qualify me for the lower mileage redemption rate? Really hoping this is the case, and, of course, I clear the upgrades!

BOS/JFK, E175, AA selling upgrades for $54. Didn't bite. A T-100 the F cabin is completely full.

Would AA even provide service on that flight other than maybe water in F? BA would provide a hot meal in CE on a comparable length flight.

Interesting situation. I was going to buy up to PE for LAX-HND but decided to hold off and just let the upgrade to J possibility play out. Curious if your 15K thing sticks. The PE buy up for mine was only $242, I may have made a mistaske not just doing it in retrospect. And especially worth it if the additional upgrade would only be 15K.

One thing I dont like is I no longer am getting the PE buy up or J buy up for that matter. The moment I asked for the waitlist for upgrade it is no longer showing me the buy ups. I also had no idea tbh that if you click on the PE buy up it also shows you a J buy up. Wish I had looked at that further when the PE offer was $242 b/c maybe the J offer would have been something reasonable also. Now I cant see anything.

Do I need a paid account with EF to see what you are discussing with the J1/Y0 numbers? I am on a miles + copay wait list for LAX-HND but its hard to get a feel for what is actually left and specific inventory. The seat map is showing 13/20 J seats avail so I feel my chances are pretty good but Im not sure b/c I know it all depends on how many seats are really avail for an upgrade.

Yes, though they offer a 5 day free trial if you haven't already taken advantage of that.

I've had an account for a couple years but never tried anything as far as seeing inventory and what not so I will try now if I can get that 5 day free trial. What exactly am I Looking for or how do I tell it to show me inventory for miles + copay seats?

Also, does the window of upgrading for miles + copay line up with comp upgrades? So I wouldnt get a miles + copay seat until 48 hours?

And is there any way to stay on the waitlist but see a J buy up offer? Its annoying how that has gone away since adding myself to the waitlist.

Unless the weather is pretty rough, they’ll do drinks and snacks in F, based on my experience. I’ve also had FAs offer drinks on the ground filled up for the flight given anticipated turbulence. BOS-LGA is now back as of today and they did drinks (no snacks) despite a fairly turbulent flight.

After years of DL, matched over to AS MVP Gold as I do a lot of cross-country trips (e.g., BOS-SEA, BOS-SAN). My understanding is on AA, MVP Gold will upgrade for domestic flights after AA Platinum, but before AA Gold - is that right?

I have no frame of reference admittedly for how frequent upgrades are at each level, do I have any shot on most routes with that positioning? Have a lot of BOS-ORD/BOS-CLT/PVD-ORD coming up if helpful.
