I received an email today for a trip on April 2 & 16, saying "Redtop, purchase an upgrade on your flight." However when I click through, I don't see any options for an upgrade, just that it refers me to my reservation. I checked the app and it made no mention of an upgrade. I'm not sure I want to anyway, but does anyone know what's going on?

Now, if I can have that luck on my connection to HND in JAL Y...

JAL metal ? You need divine intervention. :D

Or just pay the $350 for Y to PE at the airport check in counter, if you consider that an upgrade.

JAL Y is actually pretty civilized (still Y or course). Notably better than AA Y or even MCE.
However made worse by the fact that the last time I was on JAL transpac it was in F... just a few months ago.

PE was full.

I also received the same message for a transatlantic flight on April 2. Clicked through and got nothing relating to upgrade purchase options. If you find out more, please do update this thread.

Just boarded a flight today from CLT to IAH. 65 people on the upgrade list 😯 on this "very full" flight. If there is any consolation, at list I was #1 on the list.

"Hi folks please board with your original boarding group as F has checked in full".

Was F already sold out? Those are some DFW-like numbers there you're quoting.:D

Yep, F has been sold out on this flight for a while. I was hoping for a last minute cancellation or missed connection. But alas, I sit here in 9D being bumped by nearly every passenger walking by me

Hey that sounds like me two weeks ago from CHS to DTW but at least I was in 8E so I didn't get bumped.
:D

Just out of curiosity, what would you say your UG% is at a CK?

Very high for those times not buying FC outright. This is the first time I have not been upgraded when flying by myself. In the last two years, when flying with my wife, I've only gotten 1 of our seats upgraded on just 2 flights. I gladly gave those upgrades to my wife ☺️.

Does AA clear SWU upgrades to PE on Intl flights if the SWU doesn’t clear into J but not take the SWU? I know they do it on the Hawaii to DFW flights but didn’t know if they do it on Intl. Thanks.

Maybe, maybe not, depends on the phase of the moon and atmospheric pressure that day.

Using SWUs

I'm beginning to regret choosing SWUs this time around. I have one expiring in June and a total of 9. I have time off in May but cannot find confirmed upgrade space on any of the dozen or more destinations I've tried on AA site, which I assume is as good a place to check as Expert Flyer. (I do subscribe to EF). Any advice on finding space, recent experience with clearing later, value of choosing award miles vs SWUs, musings on retaining status in general?

I believe I've had only 2 misses since I became CK in 2017. That's a pretty good record for well over 1000 domestic segments. I do pay some attention to upgrade likelihood when I book, but often I have no choice due to schedule.
