I imagine the fact that the seat maps are practically vacant in both J and Y at this stage is sorta in our favor?
Again I still think your odds are good, just that an empty seat map for a flight 7 months in advance doesn't tell you anything about upgrade odds. |

I would have a word with the gate agent and see if they’ll switch you to the seat of whoever ends up getting the upgrade vs giving it to whoever clears standby. #1 on the list is likely already in MCE.

Last night (Thursday) DCA/MIA 738 3 out of 52 on the upgrade list. About 240LP YTD. No one cleared, including a CK that I followed back into Y.

Tuesday March 14 - PHX - DEN cleared at T-100
Thursday March 16 - DEN - PHX cleared at T-100 EXP with 72K LPs (2023) I'll update for Waitlist when it opens up on the app. |
I cleared tomorrow's DFW-LAX flight 4 days ago yet I'm in a middle seat, 300 deep on an upgrade wait list to Charleston.
Crazy times. |
Plat Pro with 146k LPs in 2022.
15MAR LAX-BOS red-eye - cleared Y to J at T-70, seat map was showing one seat open, but flight was J7. 16MAR BOS-PHL - cleared at window |
PPro, 130K last year.
Cleared DCA-MCO and back for companion and I at about the 72 hour mark for each leg. |

Nice clear on LAX-BOS. Do they fly flagship on this route?
BOS-ORD E175 Sunday evening - cleared at the window, and we went out with one seat open and a light load. ORD-DFW 789 (!!) Monday evening - I had previously cleared at the window on the late flight (looks like it went out with a few on the list), but SDFC’d to this flight. Flight went out with ~35 on the list. The 789 was a nice surprise and good for the two hour flight. |

They do. It’s one of those routes where it can be very easy to grab a J seat depending on timing. I think they cut down at least one frequency to B6 :td:, but I want to say it is coming back for the spring / summer.

James Oh and update on the Flight out to Denver... 30 on the waitlist and one seat still available, so one person cleared at Gate. Must have been a Platinum or Platinum Pro. We had Preflight Bev. This on an older A320. I still like the FC seats on the A320s over the newer ones on the 321Neos. On the return trip, there were 10 seats available in First. Everyone on the waitlist was bumped and there were two empty seats. They guy sitting next to me was Gold and the one across the aisle was Alaska 75K. |
I wouldn't go that far - I'd keep an eye on the cabin availability before you book. On LAX-BOS, there's always a chance of a big corporate event happening that fills the J cabin well in advance.
