Check-in time has no bearing on your upgrade chances. Some like to check in early, others wait till the airport. It's usually easier to change flights if you're not checked in although a phone agent can undo the check-in if necessary. All that said, AA10 tonight is down to F1J1 (meaning one seat left for sale in F and one in J, or it could be one total in F/J combined), so your upgrade chances are slim to none as a PLT Pro with 0 LP. And all other LAX-JFK flights today are either sold out or have only 1 seat left in F/J. So I would stop stressing about this upgrade as it ain't happening and be prepared for a nice flight in coach :) |

Just FYI I see you also posted this in the newbie thread, cross posting the same question in multiple threads is not allowed and just clutters things up.

I've been looking at the seatmaps for these flights for a month before I booked and they consistently flew out with many seats open in J.... Guess I got unlucky... |

Darn! Thanks for letting me know about the crossposting.

I have too much anxiety on this upgrade so the price went low enough for me to purchase business on a transcon however I keep getting this message. my guess is maybe my upgrade is about to go through? any thoughts? ive tried a few times on desktop and phone and picked different seats as well.

The two of us just flew DFW-YVR and back. Outbound was last Saturday morning and we left YVR yesterday. They were award tickets but since I’m EXP I was somewhat hopeful of getting an upgrade. Ended up 8 and 9 (out of 30) in the flight to YVR and ended up 5 and 6 on the return. Wouldn’t have thought there’d be that much EXP traffic in a weekend but I guess so….
the return had 3 seats for sale in first (showing 6 open on the seat map) 36 hours before departure. |

I'd call in. Maybe the premium cabin is oversold because someone bought the last seat seconds/minutes before you purchased it.

Can't believe I never got offered a paid upgrade the entire time... Maybe it's because I booked a basic econ fare?
Either way, stuck at 3/5 on waitlist so far... 0 seats open in F (seatmap says 1 open though...) |
Interesting one Sunday evening, DFW-YYC on an A319 with 8 FC seats. When the waitlist became available I (PPro) was 5 of 15 or so for 0 available seats. At boarding, no one was crowding the gate. When they called Group 1, one person walked up. When they called Group 2, I was the only person to walk up. As boarding was nearing completion, the FA came back and upgraded several people from various MCE seats. I heard him address #4 by name and it matched the first initial of #4 on the upgrade list. I wonder if there was a late incoming flight and some missed connections to have four upgrades after boarding with 0 available, and as I noted, one person who walked up when Group 1 was called. I wasn't too bummed to miss the upgrade as I had an MCE with an empty middle and had already eaten. Plus I heard a crying baby frequently throughout the flight that I was pretty sure was coming from FC but I didn't pay close attention when deboarding.
