AA agents have occasionally allowed passengers with booked travel wishing to cancel because of Coronavirus concerns to cancel without fees, but this is not AA official policy. Possible reasons:
Events, meetings, etc. you were to attend have been cancelled due to Coronavirus concerns, so your trip would be in vain.
You have documentable health conditions that your doctor feels are sufficient to cancel travel plans.

Probably. “We” means their computer. Have an idea of what flights you want and call, The auto rebooker algo breaks when it’s a partner flight to AA or NRT to HND.

Purchased Ticket Credit
I have a $3,200 international business class purchased ticket issued September 5, 2021 which I cancelled December 5 due to a cancelled cruise.
Can someone tell me when the credit expires and can it be split for use on multiple cheaper trips?

Sept 5 2022. You can use the "flight credit" for a flight by you. If you have "change" due, it will be until the form of a "trip credit" which you can use to but a ticket(s) for anyone. That trip credit would be valid for a year after you use the flight credit to get the first replacement ticket

Can someone tell me about AA's cancellation as compared to Alaska?
I'm used to being able to cancel and just have the money go back to my wallet on AS (presuming not basic economy). It seems like AA is now the same?
But I can use the money in my wallet in AS for anyone, not just myself. Is that not true for AA? What if on AA I bought a ticket for myself and another person? Can I have it all go back to me, or does it split and go to the other person as well?

Would BE (no changes allowed) vs. regular economy make a difference in the hypothetical situation where the pre-departure covid test fails and the passenger is not allowed to return to the US as planned? Would the airline allow free rebooking for a BE ticket?

Curious as to whether anyone might have some advice as to this situation:
On 5/1/21 I combined two 2019 booked flight cancellation credits plus an additional $250 in cash (each) for new tickets for my family of four for a flight to Cancun on 12/27/21. Unfortunately due to the Omicron surge I had to cancel that flight. Total value on each ticket was ~$1,150 for a total of $4,500 in flight credits ($3,500 in 2019 flight credits and $1,000 in cash).
When I cancelled I was informed by an AA agent that my flight credit would be good for a year from ticketing - which would be 5/1/22. Said credit was in the Wallet in the AA.com account for each member of my family with no "Expiration Date" listed. It just read "Expiration Date: --"
I checked our accounts last week to verify the amount and come up with a plan to use the credit and it was gone. I called AA and the (at first) extremely pleasant agent did a bunch of checking with "the Tariff desk" and came back that "your tickets no longer have any value" because it was a "2019 ticket credit that expired on 3/31/22". When I explained the situation, that I was informed it was good until 5/1/22, and asked why I'd also be losing the additional $1,000 cash paid in 2021 she got really rude with me and said she couldn't help me any more, there was no one else I could speak to or be transferred to, and I had to go through Customer Service on AA.com in order to get any further explanations.
I submitted a complaint/question about the situation on AA.com last week but haven't received any response other than the automated acknowledgement that it was received.
Anything else I can do at this point? Or am I pretty much screwed and out $4,500?
