In looking at EF it shows at least 3 seats available in the J, R and D classes, does that mean there is 9 seats total available to sell or that the 3 seats fall into either class and there is only 3 seats left to sell? Thanks in advance for any help.

Just look at the J number, as that's the full-fare biz... which basically means that's how many TOTAL biz seats are available for sale.

So in this case, it's 3 seats left for sale. Which means there are 9 unassigned seats, per your observation of 12 empty seats on the seat map.

Lowly Gold me with $6K rolling EQD cleared PHL-MSY on Sunday at the 24 hour window. I'm not sure how this happened, given that there were only 8 seats (2 rows) up front, but I'll take it.

AA108 2019May19 SWU standby PE -> J

I have a SWU standby for tomorrow May19 on AA108 (LAX-LHR) from PE (P fare).

There are unassigned seats in J but C availability usually opens up by now (T-36). Can a kind someone tell me if J is sold out and simply unassigned?

My flights this week; comp upgraded on all six legs to my surprise:

SFO-DFW, 321 Tuesday morning departure - cleared at gate boarding flight
DFW-MIA, 772 Tuesday afternoon - cleared at 100 hrs
MIA-STI, 738 Tuesday evening - cleared T3 hrs (during above flight to MIA)
STI-MIA, 738 Saturday morning - cleared at 100 hrs
MIA-DFW, 752 Saturday morning - cleared at T 24 hrs.
DFW-SFO, 321 Saturday afternoon - cleared at gate (pre-boarding) Note: four on upgrade list, three cleared but one seat went out empty (next to me 1A). Saw gate agent go to the back but came back solo; door closed afterwards.

I was on AA136 last night (Saturday May 18). It varied from J6 to J0 over the past 7 days with 4-9 seats unassigned. On the day it went to J0 and at T-8 there were no unassigned seats. The upgrade list was 16 persons-long and I was no. 3 (with 15,500 EQDs). Just before they closed the doors the GA came on and have me a new boarding pass – I was the only person upgraded on the flight (presumably nos. 1 and 2 were waitlisted for F).

So, however bleak it looks, there is always a chance :)

LAX-JFK

Any thoughts on whether I am likely to get upgraded from Premium Economy to Business using 500 mile coupons, LAX-JFK 004 on 5/25? F and J are showing 7 on EF. I'm a freshly minted Gold. Thank you.

Thanks for the encouragement. I'm sitting at #3 on the list and there are still unassigned seats. Crossing fingers!

Typically LAX-JFK is a tough upgrade even for EXPs, however as you're flying on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend you might have a shot, as there will be much less paid business travel. Good luck!

My upgrade to J cleared right before boarding and I was able to refresh my mobile boarding pass. I was #4 on the list. #1-3 did not clear (presumably waitlisted for an upgrade to F from J) and about 6 others scattered throughout the rest of the list of 18 also cleared. The J0 had me nervous but I guess I lucked out.
