AAdvantage Buy Back and Boost / Buy Up Status

AA generally offers members reasonably close to requalifying for status near the end of the year the option to buy back their existing status, or on occasion to buy up to the next highest status tier.

These offers are generally made by email to AAdvantage members beginning some time in November.

If you have not received an offer or would like to see your offer (if any), you can see it by visiting https://elite.aa.com

If you haven’t flown sufficiently, you’ll probably sign in and see

No offers available

Thanks for visiting. Our records show that you’re not eligible to receive an fifer at this time. If you need more information about your account, visit aa.com/youraccount
Please peruse this thread to see offers reported by members.

Offer for EXP USD 2495... not interested.
Similar stats, 2645 USD for me. I already have flights set that should put me at EXP before new years. Doubt I'll fly as much next year on AA (and in general).

EQD is likely a factor in if an offer is made at the various EQM points.

Most likely, the offer will be somewhere in the $1,995-2,495 ballpark. 17K EQM mileage run will most certainly be cheaper.

Ticked over to PPRO over the weekend, thought I would check see if there was an EXP offer. No offers to view.

Currently sitting on:
16,549 EQD
77,457 EQM
68 EQS

I have another 2,000 or so EQD to add before the end of the year, but only about 5,000 EQM, so I assume I won’t be getting an offer.

I got an offer at EQD: $18,276 EQM: 75,815 EQS: 81 for $3475. Now I'm at $20k EQD, 87K EQM, and 89 segments and $2495. I'll be at 95k EQM by the end of next week so curious to see the offer when I get there. So definitely a chance for you.

I had similar stats as you last year and received an offer to buy up to EXP for over $3,000. They've probably tweaked the algorithm this year, but if you do get an offer, it isn't going to be attractive.

I believe the “algorithm” has several variables figured in, and this is really just a huge study in human behavior and tolerance. Thus the case with some people being asked to pay more than another, even though they are closer to achieving the actual status. In other words, “What are people really willing to pay?”

I don't get it. For my wife, it's

$1.2k EQD
16k EQM
9 EQS

and her offer is $1,299.

Qualified for EXP 3 days ago. Got the You've reached Executive Platinum status email today. 8 minutes before that arrived, got an Extend your elite status email offer for $1395. I was about 1500 miles short at the beginning of the week. Next year will be interesting to see if i get an offer as I am likely to qualify on miles but may be short on EQD.

Just curious does your wife currently have status? I've been PLT for 4 years or something. Am sitting at 22k EQMs and 2800 EQDs, and AA wants $1445 from me to retain PLT. What the !!!
