I believe ANZ also has SFO-AKL direct, which would be lovely (I hear great things about ANZ). And I do have UA miles. But I believe those ANZ award seats are pretty much impossible to get (in theory, possible, but so close to impossible as to being indistinguishable from it), so I'm not gonna count on beating those odds.
"Difficult" I can probably do. "All but impossible"....not so much.
It's good to know about my options on CX using AA. I'm sure that's a great way to go, even if it is a few more miles. Thanks.

AS allows USA-HKG-AU/NZ on CX as one award (they don't have AA's restrictions on transiting Asia). With a stopover on outbound AND inbound.

What's the AS access to CX award inventory like? I assume they have access to the same inventory released to other CX partners (eg AA). Do they get it at the same 330-day window that AA does?
Thanks for this very useful tip!

Wow...now that is an attractive option. We do have AS miles (and I'm flying AS today...). And AS is my hometown airline, so it should be easy-peazey to connect from home (SEA) to the CX TPAC in SFO or LAX (no wrestling with AA to secure the domestic connection with their relatively fewer flights).

73+ hours and my transpac J award with CX still shows as "On Request." Reservation agent insists everything is OK and that the ticket is in the processing queue for the rates desk, but that they're running quite behind.
I agree things are taking unusually long, but agent made it sound like it's par for the course now with partner airline bookings.

Called several times and was told all is OK - just running behind
Do they need more staff, faster computers or what exactly can take this long?

Well, at least it's not just one person who is having this problem. AA may be unique in that what they call a "liaison" or specialist between AA and a partner carrier must review the reservation to ensure that it complies with all the rules. I've never had it take this long - usually 24-36 hours during the week or from a Friday to Tuesday (Saturday to Wednesday) if done over a weekend. It just isn't an automated process like it appears to be at UA. Why, I don't know. Maybe AA just has more complex rules ????

If it is, I have looked on their site and but it seems I can only look for roundtrip.
