AAdvantage Aviator Silver and Red Cards from BarclayCard
There are five AAdvantage-linked Aviator-branded cards by Barclaycard. Two of them can be applied for directly, the other three are upgrades or downgrades after receiving a Red card.

The Many Flavors of Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator

Where can I see information on all available Barclays Barclaycard AAdvantage cards?

Aviator Red (On AA.com)
Aviator Silver (On AA.com)
Aviator Business (On AA.com)
Aviator Red applications are available at the airport, in flight, or online at https://www.barclaycardus.com/.

Red cardholders may receive an offer to upgrade to Aviator Silver after a period of time that varies, usually 3-11 months. The offer appears in the online "Offers" section, if it is declined there may be no simple way to receive the upgrade. Be careful with your clicking! Silver benefits begin at the start of the next statement, but the increased annual fee won't hit until the next card-member year starts.

Aviator Silver Vs Red
Annual Fee: Silver $199 Red $99
Miles on AA Purchases: Silver 3x Red 2x
Miles on hotels and car rentals: Silver 2x, Red 1x
Miles on all other purchases: Silver 1x, Red 1x
Bonus Loyalty Points: Silver 5k LP after $20k/$40k/$50k Per Status Year Red None
In-Flight Food & Beverage: Silver $25 back/day Red 25% back
Wifi Credits: Silver $50/anniversary year Red $25/anniversary year
Companion Ticket: Silver 2 Companions Red 1 Companion (Minimum Anniversary-Year Spend Required for both)
PreCheck/Global Entry: Silver $100 credit Red No Credit

Card Benefit Details

FlyerTalk thread Citi & Barclaycard AAdvantage Credit Card Free Domestic Checked Bag / Baggage

Aviator Silver Bonus Loyalty Points: Bonuses are based on spend during status year, not anniversary year. When upgrading to Silver your Red spending will carry over. Five thousand Loyalty Points after spending $20k/$40k/$50k. You cannot stack multiple Silver accounts to earn this multiple times.

Companion Certificate: $20k in anniversary year spend required, issued about 45 days after you annual fee hits. Red gets one companion, Silver can have two. $99+tax for companions, round-trip 48 contiguous US States only unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii, in which case you may fly from your home state to the 48.

The CARD Act went into effect in 2010. Many Silver cards were upgraded from Red in less than 12 months since then. I would consider it a voluntary change, as no one is being forced to upgrade to Silver. Mechanically, you keep the same account number, so does that make it the same account and (now) subject to some stricter enforcement of the CARD Act?

Yep, you are correct. Until a couple years ago, the ~3 month and call and ask to upgrade usually worked (as all the articles that I can find about that are dated a few years ago). One of the moderators at the MyFico forums (some of the most knowledgeable people I've found in that industry) had this to write last year (post 9 if it doesn't load directly to it):

I have both. I'll probably cancel the red when the annual fee comes due.

Anyone have issues with the 5K LP's from the Aviator Silver posting and showing up on your AA account?

I hit the 1st tier ($20K spend = 5K LP's) on Feb 12. Shows the date stamp on my Barclays online account.

On my AA account, there is an entry for Feb 12 of 1 RDM mile but no LP (as they had not started displaying LP's for any individual transaction entries before Mar 1).

I have been tracking my LP and my current AA balance does not include an extra 5K, in other words - what is posted on AA's site as my LP count is accurate and I am still waiting on this 1st 5K of LP to post.

Any data points on if they actually take the quoted 6-8 weeks to post?
Any idea on who I should reach out to if they don't post in the next few weeks?

I will hit tier 2 and 3 on Aviator Silver this month, wondering if they will post quicker since the LP system is now "live".

Barclays used to cut off spend totals that met the thresholds each month-end (never confirmed exact cut-off date) and send to AA who would post on the 10th. As of 2/28/22, Barclays was still compiling spend for EQM and EQD bonuses under the old program. I hit my first spend target March 5. I hope to see 5,000 LP on 4/10/22. Perhaps that is when bonuses earned in the "Double Dip" period will also appear.

I see an offer to upgrade to silver in my no-fee card account. Does anyone know how long the offer tends to be available? I would prefer to wait to accept until after my statement closes.

When I upgraded they had to wait until the cycle close. Call them and ask how it works now.

I currently have an offer to upgrade from red to silver. I am hesitant to do so because it does not appear that the silver has the MasterRental benefit for rental vehicles? Or am I mistaken ...

Follow Up to my above post.....

The first level of LP from Aviator Silver posted in a new, single entry dated March 1st for 1 RDM + 5K LP (even though the actual earned date was 2/14).

So it took 1 extra day behind when my statement miles posted.

I received both offers and initially did the upgrade and then I accepted the triple miles promo.

I have an offer to upgrade as well. Been with Barclays since like 2005 I think? Had the US Airways card first, then it became Aviator Red, which I downgraded to the no fee card about 3-4 years ago. Minimal spend since then, like $500 a year. I am considering upgrading to Silver, but is it worth it? Are the 3x miles translating to 3x LPs?

I could have just been lucky, but it may be worth checking out.
‘I’ve only had the card for about 4 months and I didn’t have the box under recent activity on my phone.. I’ve charged enough to earn the additional 15k LP’s but have the red card. Will the spend roll over onto the Silver card, if I’m offered it in the future?

Did anyone else qualify for the Aviator 5000 EQMs with a $20,000 spend in the double dip period of Jan 1, 2022 to Feb 28, 2022? Did you get 5,000 LPs in the conversion?

I qualified on Jan 4, 2022 and received only 1 LP in the conversion on March 1st. See screenshot. I have disputed this with AA and Aviator and I am waiting to hear back. I feel I am owed an additional 4,999 LPs. I'm sure I am not the only one with this issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Pretty sure u are in understanding how this works. To post threshold bonuses they have to transmit 1 mile so that it will show up in the system. And that 1 mikes would get 1 LP. Now look other places or call ACS because the bonus LPs should be there — and remember when there was the initial posting of prior LPs? It’s probably in that number. If u don’t believe it is call ACS or add up all of ur miles and bonus that would be eligible for conversion to LPs and see if the number foots.
