AAdvantage Aviator Silver and Red Cards from BarclayCard
There are five AAdvantage-linked Aviator-branded cards by Barclaycard. Two of them can be applied for directly, the other three are upgrades or downgrades after receiving a Red card.

The Many Flavors of Barclaycard AAdvantage Aviator

Where can I see information on all available Barclays Barclaycard AAdvantage cards?

Aviator Red (On AA.com)
Aviator Silver (On AA.com)
Aviator Business (On AA.com)
Aviator Red applications are available at the airport, in flight, or online at https://www.barclaycardus.com/.

Red cardholders may receive an offer to upgrade to Aviator Silver after a period of time that varies, usually 3-11 months. The offer appears in the online "Offers" section, if it is declined there may be no simple way to receive the upgrade. Be careful with your clicking! Silver benefits begin at the start of the next statement, but the increased annual fee won't hit until the next card-member year starts.

Aviator Silver Vs Red
Annual Fee: Silver $199 Red $99
Miles on AA Purchases: Silver 3x Red 2x
Miles on hotels and car rentals: Silver 2x, Red 1x
Miles on all other purchases: Silver 1x, Red 1x
Bonus Loyalty Points: Silver 5k LP after $20k/$40k/$50k Per Status Year Red None
In-Flight Food & Beverage: Silver $25 back/day Red 25% back
Wifi Credits: Silver $50/anniversary year Red $25/anniversary year
Companion Ticket: Silver 2 Companions Red 1 Companion (Minimum Anniversary-Year Spend Required for both)
PreCheck/Global Entry: Silver $100 credit Red No Credit

FlyerTalk thread Citi & Barclaycard AAdvantage Credit Card Free Domestic Checked Bag / Baggage

Aviator Silver Bonus Loyalty Points: Bonuses are based on spend during status year, not anniversary year. When upgrading to Silver your Red spending will carry over. Five thousand Loyalty Points after spending $20k/$40k/$50k. You cannot stack multiple Silver accounts to earn this multiple times.

Companion Certificate: $20k in anniversary year spend required, issued about 45 days after you annual fee hits. Red gets one companion, Silver can have two. $99+tax for companions, round-trip 48 contiguous US States only unless you live in Alaska or Hawaii, in which case you may fly from your home state to the 48.

Thank you Drwaz99 moe8555 I will keep the card open. They've waived the AF for me every year for the past few years so paying for one year is okay. Happy holidays!

I currently have an offer in my account to upgrade to the Silver card. I’m debating if it is worth the upgrade at this point. Currently Plat and will be able to qualify next year off of segments and the EQD waiver. The only real value I see is the food and drink credits. I really doubt if service is coming back in 2021. Am I missing any other reason to upgrade or should I stay with the Red until service returns to flights?

The card comes with $50 in Wifi credit. Thats a good perk. One benefit is that you can get incremental EQM bumps with this card. $20,000 in spend gets you 5,000 EQMs and $40,000 gets you an additional 5,000 EQMs. In contrast, the Citi exec card gets you 10,000 EQMs but only after $40,000 in spend.

Given that EQDs are waived for next year (provided you make the credit card spend), my plan is to max out the Citi Exec card until I hit the $40,000 EQM bonus and then switch to the Barclay card to at least get 5,000 additional EQMs.

Before, with the Barclay card being the only card that has an EQD kicker, all of the spending was focused on the Barclay card.

The Silver card also provides up to $25 a day in statement credits towards inflight food and alcoholic beverage purchases on AA flights. In addition, 3x miles on American Airlines purchases, compared to 2x with the red card, and 2x miles on hotels and car rentals, no bonus points on those with the red card.

Yah, true. Can you even buy food though onboard?

If you successfully downgrade to an AAviator Blue card with $0 annual fee willl you then be eligible for the AAviator Red card bonus again after ~6 months (as if you had closed the Red card normally)?

In other words does having any personal Barclay AAdvantage card(s) open *including the $0 AF blue card* make you ineligible for new card bonuses for other AAdvantage cards until ~6 months after all those card(s) are closed?

Due to the MM promo, I was able to hit both EQM thresholds well before the usual Feb posting date (2/10). However, I just received only one EQM boost. Anyone else ever have this problem? Curious if it will autoresolve maybe next month or if this will be a PITA to resolve.

It should autoresolve. The cutoff date for EQM or EQD thresholds being crossed is not the day before the tenth. Exactly when it is, I am not sure. I hit my first milestone last year on the tenth and had to wait until the next cycle. Same for hitting one on the eighth - following cycle. Hitting one on the 25th got it on the immediately-next AA tenth report.

I haven't seen anything yet. I think it said something like "up to six weeks after end of promotion", so might be mid-March. I am curious as to whether it was 10k miles for the first 1k spend and 50k for an additional 3k spend, or 10k miles for 1k spend, then 50k when you hit 3k cumulative spend. Hoping it's the latter as that's what I assumed at the time...

My understanding is that you cannot get more than one new card bonus on the Red card, is that correct? I got the card in 2018 and cancelled a year later and thought it was an once and done like AMEX. Is that correct?

My account posted both EQM within a week of statement closing, statement closes on the 4th of each month for me.

But I've not seen EQD waiver post on the account, even though under promotion it says EQD waiver reached and should appear in 24hrs. It's been 3-4 weeks.

Nothing here either. We're 7 weeks past the promotion end date. T&C's said 6-8 weeks, but I'm starting to think we'll have to chase these down.

Has anybody with the Aviator Silver card had any luck getting a partial annual fee credit? I was considering asking for one, since one of the biggest benefits, the daily Food & Beverage credit, is completely unusable since AA suspended coach service. I'm surprised Barclays hasn't proactively done something to address this as I know Citi did for their executive card.

I just received 20,000 AA miles for my Barclay Silver card (I have had the card for a few years) and it is classified as "AVIATOR MC SPEND BONUS"

I am not sure what I did to earn that, but it may have something to do with 3 months of a certain level of spending.

I searched their website but did not see anything to indicate details on this bonus. Perhaps it was a promotion I signed up for...I just don't know.
