NOTE: The 15 A330-200 (with Rolls Royce Trent 700 engines) are being retained and updated. (The nine Pratt & Whitney equipped A330-300s have been scheduled for retirement (return to lessor at lease end) by late 2018 due to poor "fit" in the AA fleet (link).) The A330-200s will continue, however, and the launch of the retrofitted A330-200 will see
- 20 Zodiac "Envoy" type Business seats in a 1-2-1 layout (1 blocked for pilot rest)
- 21 Premium Economy (B/E Aerospace) seats in a 2-3-2 layout
- 50 Main Cabin Extra seats (same seats as Y, just greater seat pitch) 2-4-2 (2 blocked for customers requiring customer assistance)
- Main Cabin / Economy seats also 2-4-2
- Ku band satellite based Panasonic WiFi
- Individual personal entertainment screens for every seat
- Seat power
- Noise reduction headsets - Bose in Business, others for Premium Economy
Premium Economy and extended Main Cabin Extra has been installed on the A330-200 fleet. Until 15 Jan 2018, PE seats were available to Elites as MCE on those aircraft with PE; PE are available for sale on that date.

Currently sitting in F (J) on N289AY CLT-PHX- plane just got out of the hangar this morning and the entire cabin is refreshed...new seat covers, carpets and that nasty faux-wood bulkhead in J is now standard AA gray. A nice change, and it smells like a new plane.
I took some pics at boarding and will post later.

Yeah I can handle the bit of faux wood on the table/counter tops but those old bulkhead walls were atrocious. It certainly looks, feels and smells much more up to date. The old cabins were getting pretty grimy- it was nice not finding any crumbs, stains or wrappers all over the place for once too.

N284AY has been in San Salvador for maintenance- WiFi installation I think- and N285AY is currently there undergoing the same. Not sure if the cabins are being refreshed at the same time though.

Glad to see at least some modicum of standardization happening ^
I noticed no headrests in Y and I presume no MCE? Would be nice to get those two key product items standardized too especially on a long haul bird. Maybe they'd rather wait and do it all when PE is installed, but that is quite some time down the road.

Flew an A332 on CLT-BOS last Tuesday. Didn't get the N-number. AA.com said the aircraft featured Wi-Fi, but I couldn't find a signal once I was onboard.
The aircraft had the new AA bulkheads, carpets, and seat covers in Y with the red strip at the top of the seat. I will say that the leg-room on these birds is decent, and I wouldn't mind spending a little longer on them. I found the old US leather covers to be much more plush, however. The new AA covers seem to be much more firm…perhaps because they aren't broken in yet.
One thing that was odd was that the IFE was still very much from US. There were no AA video PA announcements (boarding, exit row, level off, etc…) and the FA's on the welcome screen were wearing the US uniform. Likewise, in the GPS, flight was identified as a US Airways flight AA1906
Another thing that I found odd was that I was under the impression that AA offered gate to gate IFE. The IFE system only turned on once the aircraft's landing gear were up, and the FAs turned off the system prior to arrival.
The crew seemed to be overwhelmed during the flight-like they were used to operating on the A330. Also, it is kind of sad to see the crew to be in good spirits in the gate area before boarding, only for them to be sour during the flight. For example, in Y, the controls for the FA call button are on the same switch as the light button, and the FAs were yelling at pax to stop hitting the button. One FA even threatened to deactivate a pax's IFE screen completely.
Also, the AVOD screens are VERY hard to use in Y. There is no remote, it is simply a touch screen that you literally have to tap with all your might just to get it to function.

That looks like the same AA IFE get on AA planes. Just flew a brand new 787-8 and 787-9, and A321T. All have the same welcome screens.
