The chicken breast was dry, as expected, but still tasty. The saffron rice and lemon meringue were very good. Still better than what most other airlines are serving these days. No cookies were offered on the flight.

I thought the cod was...fine? To me it seemed mildly flavored and the cod was cooked well and not dry. Overall, it tasted like a lighter/healthier meal. Also, mine definitely looked less black than the one in gold10829's post. Our F/A also wrote different quotes for each of our meals which I thought was interesting.

No plated dessert meant the cookies came out, which ended up being southern toffee with nuts (maybe pecans?), and as expected, delicious.

Cod was really dry. However couldn’t complain as I was hungry. Snack basket came out 1 hour prior to arrival. Cookie was given shortly after meal was cleared

It was pretty decent tho unremarkable and came with a lemon meringue tart. Service was very good and professional with a pass of the snack basket around an hour out of DCA.

This was my first transcon since COVID, but things mostly seemed normal except the coffee was in paper cups. My wife and I pre-ordered the kale bowl, which we both thought was pretty tasty. My neighbor had the onion frittata, I passed on that as I hate onions but it also looked pretty good. My son pre-ordered the fruit and cheese plate, which came with yogurt. There was one pass of the snack basket about an hour before landing; I selected the pea-toes based on reviews here and was not let down. We landed around an hour early due to favorable winds, all in all a very smooth flight although JFK Terminal 1 is pretty sad these days.

I was hesitant but tried the Bahn-mi. It was OK. The pickled slaw and Sriracha really made the sandwich. The bread was a bit too thick and some small bits were very soggy. Also, the banhmi had this sauce (Sriracha mayo???) that didn't really belong in a banhmi, imo. Overall though, it was fine. I woke up hungover that day so the carby bread was really appreciated. 😂

This was MUCH tastier than it looked - I really enjoyed it! Excellent service from the flight attendant in First, who gave me a warm welcome as a oneworld frequent flyer.

LAX-CUN
Lunch:
Entrée Salad with egg. (Other option was Beef Sandwich)
This was ok - the cauliflower was marinated in curry, which overwhelmed the flavor of the dish.

Both meals were delicious. The breakfast was very filling, as was the dinner. I know it has been mentioned before, but I can't get over the fact that it's a real filet! I would pay $35 in a restaurant and be happy. It's also great to see that even the disposable napkins retain the button hole.

I think that's about right. They brought them out before the sandwiches and wraps returned, probably because they keep and flight loads were super low - it would be expensive to have the overhead of delivering fresh sandwiches for 2 people per flight. I've flown a lot of evening F flights between PDX and the LAX area, and a fair number between SEA and the LA area, and that was by far the most food I've seen handed out after 8pm since the apocalypse began. Except for the one FA who brought one of everything in the snack basket to each of us. That was kind of a lot of food.

The “No Meal Not Available” bug appears fixed, but the sandwich and fruit/cheese both show as unavailable for my LAX-SEA flight in ~2 weeks. So I guess I won’t get force-fed like a goose.

Cue 10 seconds of excitement followed by "If you can do this on one flight, why not do it on all?" I suppose they can easily point to their new partner, AA (and UA too) who has maintained "full" F&B service on premium routes while slashing it everywhere else.

I think it's interesting that our definition of "premium routes" is now Hawaii which use to be considered a low yield leisure route....now you get steak to OGG and a fruit and cheese plate to JFK.

Makes sense, and I think it's a good start. And if it really is a filet, that's leaps and bounds above what UA will be serving (on the HI flights w/hot meals, which I believe is all of them now) - I don't think they've served an actual filet in at least 10 years or so.

Bets on "It is a piece of short rib that you'll find strands of between your teeth when waking up the next morning?" (Or maybe just perhaps the caterers have a serious excess of quality meat, available on the cheap, that is approaching its eternal freezer burn date?)

Quite likely either of your scenarios, but I guess we'll find out soon enough...

Even less likely, but possible, is that AS wants to differentiate itself in one of the few ways they can in this market. That's certainly not going to happen in the hard product arena, since UA is utilizing mostly Polarized birds to HI for the foreseeable future.

I've flown AS F many, many times and still have yet to have:
1. Steak (aka "beef filet")
2. Ice cream

The mere thought of a steak on an AS flight has me a little discombobulated.

I can't recall ever getting anything steak-like, but I've had ice cream a few times LAX-BOS.

Any type of steak or beef rib I've had on other airlines (particularly AA on a flight from AUA-MIA) was actually delicious.
