For Alaska’s Qantas double miles promotion I am booking
JFK LAX MEL SYD MEL LAX JFK -
all legs on Qantas but per the rules I will only earn double miles on LAX MEL and MEL LAX? Does that sound about right? Just trying to get 75K status out of the way sooner than later. 64,750 miles earned as Gold 75K with the MEL route - or 64,750 if I do the JFK LAX SYD LAX JFK route. Wow, same miles earned (if MEL route doesn’t earn JFK LAX JFK which I suspect it doesn’t)
Los Angeles and Melbourne
Los Angeles and Sydney
Dallas/Fort Worth and Sydney
New York and Sydney (via Los Angeles)
San Francisco and Sydney
Vancouver, BC and Sydney

Fly direct between:
Los Angeles and BrisbaneLos Angeles and Melbourne
Los Angeles and Sydney
Dallas/Fort Worth and Sydney
New York and Sydney (via Los Angeles)
San Francisco and Sydney
Vancouver, BC and Sydney
Remember that the double miles are not EQM. The EQM is based on the distance betwern JFK & SYD as QF12 is a direct 1-stop flight not the sum of JFK-LAX & LAX-SYD. Distance according to milecalc.com is 9,950 each way so 19,900 return.
JFK-LAX-SYD-LAX-JFK
EQM 19,900 DOUBLE 19,900 75K 24,876 = 64,676
JFK-LAX-MEL-SYD-MEL-LAX-JFK
RQM 21,792 DOUBLE 15,842 75K 27,240 = 64,874
As you can see, mileage credit is slightly less with the first itinerary because it is a direct, 1-stop fare. More importantly, the second itinerary has 1,892 MORE EQM because of the extra MEL-SYS-MEL segments that are < 500 miles but credit as 500 minimum and the distance LAX-MEL is further than LAX-SYD.
As long as you registered for the promotion on or before October 31, 2017 you are good to go. For requalification the second itinerary is the better option.

More AA Confusion
Sorry guys. Does a flight like this quality for mileage plan miles? It's booked through Alaskan ($30 premium vs booking with AA!) and has an Alaskan Number attached, but the flight shows American everywhere else...

This is an American operated flight with an Alaska codeshare - it should qualify.

Alaska has never announced anything further, so either it's still in testing or has been shelved. If it's it in the app, I'm guessing it's still being tested.
Very brief FT thread here:

Sounds good, and I think that's what I'm going to do.
If I want to avoid the change fees (post 24 hrs, pre 60 days) and I am not Gold/75k, is it possible to do so? I see an option to cancel the ticket and apply the value to a future reservation, but that would incur change fees. If I plan to make Gold next year, could I cancel this ticket, make gold, then use this ticket's funds toward the value of a future ticket to avoid the change fee (as I would then be gold in 2019)?
Thanks!

You may need to call in after you make Gold if your current status gets stuck on the ticket, but they should waive it (see Post #1 & #6 here for an example). You can get the ticket value in the form of a credit certificate+PIN or directly into MyWallet.
Note that the one year expiration for the ticket value is from your original ticket and not from the date the credit certificate/MyWallet funds are created.

Is there a FAQ about tips/tricks for Alaska Airlines mileage plan?
Hi, I'm new here. I've got 270,000 miles on Alaska plan. I'm trying to book a flight to London this Fall using miles. Surprised to see so few flights available ... and they are not great flights :-( I've read some posts here, and it looks like I need to book 11 months in advance (!) to get decent flights. This looks like a great forum, and I'll continue reading through it, but there are so many posts. Question: is there a post here in this forum that summarizes the tips & tricks for Alaska mileage plan (how to book to get decent flights with few connections)?

Any datapoints on whether or not EC (OpenSkies by BA) credits? The BA flight number falls within the allowable range. And there are a few posts here that allude that it might credit.
I'm mostly curious if it is treated the same way as AA-coded OO flights (credits to mp) or HU-coded HX flights (does not credit).

Passengers: Recipient of this Discount Code must be the purchaser or one of the travelers. Up to 2 people per Discount Code, traveling together and booked and ticketed at the same time in the same reservation and at the same fare.
