To check in or not to check in ... that is the question

The email I received invites me to "CHECK IN NOW"... but the website tells me "Your transaction could not be completed as your flight is not available for check-in. Please see an Air Canada Agent at the airport to complete your check-in."

More AE IT issues?

Jun 10 AIRCANADA.COM LATITUDEAIR CANADA PROMOTION -- 472 --

Jun 9 AIRCANADA.COM TANGO ADJ.AIR CANADA PROMOTION -- 51 --

Anyone else see these all over the place? I constantly have strange amounts added and subtracted at random times/places in my account. I can't make any sense of it. Also the transactions never appear at the top of my transaction list so I often can't even notice them unless the delta is so large that my point value skews without a new entry at the top of the list. Then I have to hunt down, sometimes over a month back to find the issue. This has been happening for at least a year now.

Here are the problems I have had booking flights in the last few weeks.

Booking a flight YPR-LAS return for October (connecting in YVR). The Air Canada website told me there were no flights period. I gave up and booked WestJet from YVR to LAS.

Booking a flight from YPR-HNL for November. The Air Canada website would not let me book this at all until I tried to book it as a multi-leg flight ie. booking each flight segment one at a time. It would allow me to book this but for $200.00 more than the price quoted by the Air Canada phone reservation agent. Finally I booked this in person at the airport, the airport ticket agent gave me an even lower rate than Air Canada telephone reservations did, he said he found me and "internet special" and saved me $160.00.

Tried to book flights from YPR to Maui for December on the Air Canada website. Gave up after trying for a long time, I guess I'll book the flights in person when I have time.

With the Aeroplan website, whenever I try to book a flight YPR-YVR, if the exact date doesn't have a flight available, instead of giving me an availablility calendar it says "Air Canada doesn't fly between YPR and YVR". Funny I fly that route 6 or 8 times a year.

Overall besides pissing me off, the Air Canada and Aeroplan website must be losing Air Canada a load of money.

I doubt it. The Aeroplan site is so irritating, it forces people to use the phone agents at $30 a pop. The Air Canada site certainly makes tons o' money because many people have no choice but to fly AC.

AC Customer Solutions: privacy issue?

AC Customer Solutions immediately faxes back an acknowledgment of the message you send them, and includes a reduced size image of the first page of your fax. This is, in my opinion, inappropriate, because they don't tell you beforehand (e.g. on the website) that they are going to do this and therefore, you may not even be around to receive said fax. What if I am using a public fax machine or an office fax machine.... Now they have just made the first page of my message public.

AP award search - does availability calendar lie ?

A friend and I are planning a trip to South America this fall, and he would like to use AP miles for his flight.

When I do a search on the AP website for an award ticket from YQR to SCL the availability calendar shows ClassicFlight availability in Business class for a number of date combinations in November, ie. outbound Nov. 6th, return Nov. 21st.

However when I click "View Flights" the only options it comes back with are ClassicPlus tickets starting at 132,500 for Economy and heading rapidly upward from there.

Am I interpreting the information provided the availability calendar incorrectly? Or is this a problem with the AP website?

I realize we will probably have to phone the AP call centre but I wanted to have as much information as possible in advance of the call.

Thanks very much for any wisdom you may be able to provide.

Wow. Aeroplan is a great place to invest, and a bad place to earn miles

Apparently there are only 38 options between YYC and YYZ around Labour day. But there's 10 flights each way, with 2 choices of cabin (Economy / Business). Therefore, shouldn't it show (10 * 10) * 2 = 200 possible combinations of flights?

And then, a D ticket is 310,000 miles for 2, and W 110,000 miles. Makes me think that the "12% of our seats will be at the Classic Level" is calculated outside of blackout periods like long weekends.

Here's to calling up United to getting me seats ;-)

AirCanada.com booking problem

Searching for PIT-PVG one-way or round-trip flight for August / September. The AC 8035 / 87 option (connecting in YYZ) never appears at aircanada.com US edition, even when searching for flexible econ or executive class fares.

Also tried PHL-PVG or EWR-PVG at aircanada.com: still the same problem, as if the YYZ-PVG direct flight AC 87/88 never "existed".

However, I can successfully book the two segments separately (i.e. PIT-YYZ, YYZ-PVG by searching for multi-city flight), though there is an error message for the YYZ-PVG segment: Flights you requested are not available. Alternate departure dates have been provided. (7252). Actually, the flight is available on that day, and I can simply ignore the error message to go on with the booking.

Quite weird

At Expedia.com, no problem occurs with the booking.

Angry Aeroplan - Is There a Worse Website?

Have just given up out of sheer frustration. Does anyone know how to force the Aeroplan website to give me availabilty on routes?. It appears one has to laboriously search through multiple date combinations.

I want to do something quite simple. I need a business class tix from LON-NYC for a long weekend and I'm happy to be flexible on the dates. Basically I'll go when I can find availability, I have no specific dates to adhere to. I am aware I can't fly direct LHR-NYC on a *A carrier so am happy to route on AC, LH, SK, UA planes if required.

Now on the BA redemption engine I can simply select an outbound and inbound MONTH and tix class and it instantly tells me all the dates when redemptions ARE available. So bl**dy simple, and so much more useful.
