US Airways and Aeroplan
Hi All,
Will a U class fare on US Airways from YOW - BOS accumulate Aeroplan miles? Thanks, Wayne |
"K" class is the new bane of my existence!
yeah.. I never knew about all the complex classes with Aeroplan before.. I've been an aeroplan member for ages.. even got a flight out of my points once (montreal - calgary return)..
but lately I've been using my CIBC Aerogold a lot on everything I need that has some money to it and trying hard to earn points because i'm saving up for a trip to Japan sometime next year. Last july i booked a return flight from London Heathrow to Calgary at Christmas time from dec 14 - jan 2 - it was a pain.. because the return journey wasn't direct but instead required me to change in Montreal.. however.. I had my eyes on the points and booked with Air Canada anyway instead of the cheaper charters like Thomas Cook / Canadianaffair.com etc.. I come back.. and after about a month I get my monthly email from Aeroplan only to see that my points are much lower than they should be after a translatlantic flight... I sent in to have them applied.. and got a weird response a few weeks later.. I called in.. and some very surly person explained that OBVIOUSLY I didn't get points because I was a K booking class. I'm now on my 2nd fax/mail coorespondance with air canada customer services because at NO TIME during my booking procedure with expedia was I ever told anything about booking classes or that I might get placed in one where I wouldn't get my points.. grrrrr it's all so annoying.. I don't mind them having all these classes and stuff.. but surely you gotta tell the customers when the fork over the money, what class they're in .. no?? Stratus |

If you booked with Expedia, then your issue is with Expedia not Air Canada. And FYI, Expedia does provide you with the fare class that you are booking in, in the fare rules. AC.com also does the same if you were using them.
.. I did look through all my little terms and conditions boxes at the time.. back in July 07.. and now when I access that saved itinerary, I still can't find a place that says it.. note.. I'm not sure if it makes a difference.. but I use expedia.co.uk since I live in London... Anyway.. when I first rang Aeroplan to ask them what was up, and the lady I spoke with talked with her supervisor, she advised me that I wasn't the only one with this problem and that I needed to take it up with Air Canada Customer service directly as they were handling problems of this specific nature. Air Canada customer service hasn't told me otherwise.. they simply insist that I must have known.. .. it's quite frustrating actually .. there's like this huge secret code system that doesn't seem very transparent to me - It's like you have to be an expert before you can book a flight. I would have gone through AC.com, but I'd always had such good results with expedia before it was my first point of call. <sigh> cheers S. |

Fare rules and restrictions Please review the rules and restrictions listed below. When you purchase your ticket, you agree to these rules and restrictions. 1 Rules and restrictions -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have not received rules or restriction information for this flight. In most cases, the following rules and restrictions may apply: Most fares are non-refundable, but in many cases, the value of a ticket may be applied to a change in travel dates if the change is made prior to the departure date of the originally scheduled outbound flight. Rules and restrictions are imposed by the airlines and are subject to change. Expedia.ca must abide by these rules. Any changes to your flight reservations may incur additional charges. Airline tickets are non-transferable. Recently I gave up trying to get fare class information from them - the Expedia CSR's could only see what I was seeing. They couldn't comprehend the importance of a knowing the booking code. Even full fare J tickets quite often display the same way. |
Appears as though this thread has lost it's "Sticky " status.
Was looking at this fare: YVR-YUL-CDG-YUL-YVR-LAS for $495.00 AI - all in N Total miles 12,424 How many status miles would this earn if any? |

Andrew - thanks for the reply.
What about regular miles? |
25% for the North America segments and 0% for YUL-CDG-YUL. So rough estimate would be 570 for YVR-YUL + 570 for YUL-YVR + 248 for YVR-LAS.

"M, U - Close to full fare Economy Class. Upgradeable for all tiers at time of booking with Regular or Special Systemwides. 100% Aeroplan status miles."
Please note as of April 1st, 2008 that all flights originating in Japan to Canada will no longer even offer M or U fares making your SWU certificate pretty much useless, unless you decide to buy a full fare Y ticket... Good-bye upgradeable NRT-YYZ-NRT or NRT-YVR-NRT or KIX-YVR-KIX M or U fares. That makes the SWU worth as much as a post-it if you have to fly for work originating in Japan regardless of being and E or SE member.:( |

Just route via HKG, PEK or PVG and enjoy the extra miles you earn. ;)
Air China offers only 70% mileage to Air Canada and tickets to PEK, PVG are minimum Y100,000 or $1,000CDN and that is with Air China PLUS transit visa cost for PVG--plus your valuable time which all adds up! |

I called after paying and seeing the problem on the ticket. Agent said they were not taught about fare class effects on points at all. Rather than choosing a remedy that keeps a customer, the only option I was given was to refund the ticket. |
