FlyerTalk Forums Expert How-Tos and Guides
Last edit by: tcook052
This new annual thread has been carved out of the previous thread in an effort to reduce the number of megathreads on the AC forum. For those interested previous versions are the original 2004 - 2014 thread , 2015 edition, 2016 edition , 2017 edition, 2018 edition and 2019 edition.

The original thread started by accident but quickly became a popular place to come and discuss off topic things such as hockey, new movies, or almost anything that wouldn't fit into existing AC forum threads. Air Canada or Aeroplan topics such as flight feedback, in-flight services issues, status or mileage earning/redemption are all topics that should go into existing AC forum threads so others can benefit from this information. Topics about hotels or airlines and/or their loyalty programs, destinations, in-flight travel tech. or anything best discussed elsewhere on FT may be relocated to that forum as this thread isn't meant to import travel topics to this forum that are better discussed on other forums. FT is an amazingly diverse and large community so members are encouraged to seek out all of its resources.

While the conversation is more relaxed as it would be in a lounge that doesn't mean however that the FT rules don't apply here as they definitely do so please refrain from controversial topics such as politics or religion, avoid profanities and treat other lounge patrons with the same respect you expect.

And all it takes is a Media Release from AC for a few to come in from the cold, as it were.

Compared to the 63 people on the page the night I wrote that reply, things were more active about 3 hours ago.

Maybe it was @vernonc's boxed bacon.

English cafe breakfast or motorway truckstop - 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, baked beans, grilled tomatoes, grilled liver, three slices of toast, OJ and coffee. I'd eat that for brunch after a late night and then walk to the Arsenal game on a Sunday.

That was my point in my first line. The uptick last night was (IMHO) exactly because of AC's news

Still, bacon............ 😋

True that.

And Fogo is finally on the list for a Septemberish 2021 visit.

There's actually talk from the local government of developing the trail Bohemian1 mentioned into a European-style "wilderness luxury" lodge-to-lodge trek with the idea that this will bring more tourism to the so far overlooked northern half of Vancouver Island. The public survey they sent out even asked if people were interested in laundry service.

IMHO, 'wilderness' is a more unique offering than anything we can develop - there's less and less of it and that undeveloped character is what brings a lot of people from Europe and Asia here for tourism. I hope we can strike a balance of developing a valuable tourism industry while also appreciating that it all depends on conserving the natural world.

After hiking by the ruins of the last two times anyone tried to establish some form of habitation at Cape Scott (other than the lighthouse), I wish them well.

But one of the reasons I go to these out of the way places is to experience them for what they are, with minimal evidence of 'civilization'.

I still fondly recall climbing out of a slot canyon in Utah to lay on the mesa and peer into a cloudless night sky devoid of aircraft, two days after the border reopened post 9/11. A great respite after a terrible time.

That sounds like something I would enjoy but I would like to have takeout nearby....

Really it's more me whining about living with 3 young men. Home with post-secondary closed or online. Just realized that since myself,DW and daughter came home from TO, we have spent 3 weeks with the house full. With Summer camps, out of town jobs, international studies and Summer vacation which no longer involves everyone, it has been about 3 years since we've had that. Cool on the one hand, but readjusting. Add to that I am working full time almost entirely from home right now and the office door opens to the kitchen where everyone likes to congregate....
I miss fried bread!

My parents still do that, but to make it proper Irish, they still have black pudding. They had breakfast for dinner a couple of days ago!

You really need to brush up on your butchery skills if you think bacon comes from cows.

Or that hamburgers come from pigs.

Or that Chicken Nuggets come from chickens.

City folks ....

Hey, we now have "burgers" made from beets and chickpeas, and "chicken breasts" made from peas and soya, so who's to say beef-based "bacon" isn't around the corner?
