A330-300 Fleet Overview
AC currently has two configurations of 333:
- Dream Cabin (16 aircraft): Latest 3-class configuration in line with the 787 and 777 fleets (seat map)
- The "Merlions" (2 aircraft): ex-Singapore Airlines 2-class configuration (seat map), which are expected to be reconfigured to the Dream Cabin.
- Important note: the front cabin on these aircraft is an angle-flat product in a 2-2-2 layout that was SQ's "regional" business class. On flights within North America, AC sells it as J; on international flights, they sell it as PY. These aircraft do not have the standard AC PY cabin
- Since October 2023, these aircraft primarily operate YYZ>BOG>YUL triangle, and YUL<>LAX.

YYZ - BCN change to FIN 931
I'm flying on July 31 from YYZ to BCN and I booked my seats (1 K, D, G) months in advance. Logged on today to see if AC has been playing suspicious, and to my surprise, they switched the plane to the only old config (FIN 931) for a European flight. I read earlier that FIN 931 was mostly flying within NA and the Caribbean. What are the changes of the aircraft changing at boarding/closer to check in/last minute? If the seat that changed from 1D > 1A goes back to the new config, would it automatically go back to 1D or a random assignment? We are flying as a family with a child if that makes any difference.

Update on my FIN 931 flight from VCE-YYZ:
- the app shows me several spots lower and the handful of people ahead of me are presumably the 5-6 people who were squeezed out of J due to the aircraft swap.
- Glad I switched back to row 13 as there is no row 15 in the old configuration. I am curious as to what would have happened to all the passengers who selected row 15. Bump those according to status, time of check-in?
- had I more time, I would have offered up my seat and asked for a reroute through FRA, ZRH, MUC, etc., but when I checked EF, many of those flights going to YYZ were zeroed out as well.

Having just taken my first flight on a refurb where I actually wanted to sleep, I think I'd rather the cushions as roughly in line with a deflated pod.

I had a YVR-YYZ last month that I think was going to be 931, but it got replaced by another aircraft. I know people think the old pods are getting pretty tired, but I've only ever flown them a couple of times so was really looking forward to seeing one again!

oh hey, I’m on the return leg of that flight back to YYZ now! I can’t believe it; on my one week Europe trip, I flew both of the non-refurbished 333s. What are the odds! Did you get bumped in the end?
On this flight, there are three couples travelling together, and all of their husbands got bumped / volunteered to go back to Y / PY. The wives are complaining because 4A and 9A are empty (probably due to seat problems?) and asking why their husbands couldn’t sit there.

I'm flying on AC 738/743 in a couple of weeks (These are early morning SFO-YYZ, and 5pm return) on the 330. Looks like its often, though not 100% of the time, one of the two old 330s. I suspect this is not an accident? When looking up new reservations on my date, seat maps show 9 rows in C. Am I right to think this is the standard config for this flight, and that they will block the extra row in C so not to overbook in case of a layout change, or do they just book to capacity if they can, and deal with downgrades, etc, later?
Hoping to get a new config, but I suspect I should expect the old? Anyway to tell prior which one we'll get? I know flight status (on the app) used to show the FINs scheduled, but at least right now, I can't see that info. for any flight I've checked.
