A330-300 Fleet Overview

AC currently has two configurations of 333:
  • Dream Cabin (16 aircraft): Latest 3-class configuration in line with the 787 and 777 fleets (seat map)
  • The "Merlions" (2 aircraft): ex-Singapore Airlines 2-class configuration (seat map), which are expected to be reconfigured to the Dream Cabin.
    • Important note: the front cabin on these aircraft is an angle-flat product in a 2-2-2 layout that was SQ's "regional" business class. On flights within North America, AC sells it as J; on international flights, they sell it as PY. These aircraft do not have the standard AC PY cabin
    • Since October 2023, these aircraft primarily operate YYZ>BOG>YUL triangle, and YUL<>LAX.

If so they turned the refurbishment very quickly (30 days). She also went tech yesterday on the way to Lisbon and had to return to Montreal to be replaced by GFAF (which is the last bird in the old configuration).
GHLM is due to operate 415 tomorrow and the upgrade list is the app is showing J32 and PY24, which is the new config.

Looks like GHLM (FIN938) is still in the XM config.

Yep. Silently switched back to non-XM. Of course, now I'm not longer in my preferred seat, which I selected ages ago, since the swap to XM didn't have that seat number, so the swap back left me in a random place, and J cabin is full. Truly first world problems .

FT is FWP, so when it comes down to it, nobody should be complaining about anything, how subjectively big, medium, or small.
One of my flights was swapped in and out of different metals and hence my seat was changed each time. IIRC, at least years ago, even with a FIN change to a same metal and same seat config, the system would still magically assign a different seat. Perhaps that's different now.

FIN changed a few more times before boarding, with no seat changes, so I presume that behavior is a thing of the past.

Looks like both 931 and 938 are still in the old config and still doing occasional flights to/from Europe. This is really not ideal since these have 5 less J and 3 less PE seats, so if J/PE were nearly full and the plane switches last minute, there will be unfortunate last minute downgrades.

Now I am dreading - keeping my fingers crossed for no downgrade. I recall that the plan a year ago was to have all 330s upgraded by the summer 2022....

Was anticipating flying the new A330, but my flights in early July to/from SFO got switched to the 77L, presumably due to high demand for the long weekend.

I suppose I'll try it later this year. Hopefully the cursed non-refurbished A330 will be gone by then too. I have never had to fly the XM product, would prefer to keep it that way.

The XM seat was a huge step forward compared to the recliner seat they used before that…

I'd take a brand new XM seat over a brand new Dream pod. Unfortunately there are no brand new XM seats...they are tired to say the least.

On the 330, I would agree.

I refuse to fly VS even on relatively new 787s with the same seat. Whatever the flaws with the more compressed size of the new dream pods compared to the 787/777 versions, it is unfathomable to me how anyone can deal with the non-existent stowage space on the XM seats. Have the same issue with BA club world which I've only been subjected to once, but at least that seat has a drawer you can fit a laptop inside.

To each their own, I suppose. I'm also only encountering this thing for daytime transcons, not lengthier overseas flights. I've also flown JAL SS III to/from Singapore many a time so a more compressed reverse-herringbone seat is not unfamiliar to me.

It looks like FIN933 (C-GFAJ) is returning to service tomorrow (June 29) on a Montreal-Lisbon flight. I assume its finally repaired from the damage sustained in a towing incident back in April.

And this happened. 5 people got downgraded from J to Y, and was given no rerouting option (I heard some lady saying to AC agents "you guys really suck". They just said they would refund the difference which seems very convenient for AC? Given that Aeroplan charges for the highest cabin booked, if you have any short-haul connecting flight for even an hour in J, does that mean they get no refunds? Seems pretty ridiculous that the value of 9 hours in J and the value of 8 hours in Y + 1 hour in J is the same, when in reality no one would have paid those points to fly 8 hours in Y and 1 hour in J.

A question for old 330s since they look and feel ancient - what is the compensation for being given a seat with non-working entertainment & power? I think I read that a flight attendant has to write a report or fill out a form and you have to contact customer relations? Is the outcome usually some aeroplan points and/or a discount coupon?

My A330 flight in late August just got switched to the old configuration. A shame since I had booked row 18 expecting the new cabin's bulkhead seats. If it doesn't change I'll have to switch to a regular aisle seat because the old economy bulkhead looks awfully tight.
