The old website is in the process of being "retired"
Leaving the below here for now for the sake of posterity and reference.
Accessing the "old" website.

At the moment (09-Sep-2016) accessing the old and functional website is still possible.

The procedure to access the old website requires a few steps.

1. Clear all aircanada.com related cookies and browser cache.
2. Go to this URL. https://www.aircanada.com/en/go-beta.html
3. Click on book travel Button at the top left of the screen.

Alternatively for some clicking on one the following links will work for some as well.

https://www.aircanada.com/aco/flights.do or;
https://www.aircanada.com/en/home.ht...ialSignon=true

"A digital transformation underway at Air Canada is reshaping the customer experience in almost every way"
Most of the old website URLs now redirect to the new "beta" website.

But presumably these did not include legs on routes that AC does not fly and has no rights?

I could not book an itinerary I found on matrix from Canada to Sicily on aircanada.com. I could book it for my wife on the aeroplan web site. However phoning Air Canada, I ended up getting precisely what I wanted. Even though the agent initially did not believe it and tried to tell me to use another site such as god forbid travelocity.

I booked all my EYW itineraries on AC.com using multi-city.

It worked flawlessly.

One of us got lucky, or one of us got unlucky. I went to book a EYW-esque routing and the website came back with a nearly $2000 quote for what ended up costing ~$550 through the call centre.

I agree.

The multi city tool is not smart enough to do that yet.

Are you using an Ad Blocker? The AC site seems to crap out in places if you are. Flight Passes were an area where I had a number of problems.

I'm impressed.

I like that there is a maintenance notice at the top of the page. ^

They should leave it there, and add one of these permanently:

I was trying 9-10 times to login and change a booked flight, but always ended up in failure. Hate it, when you just need to do something that day, and they have a website malfunction in that day....

I got an email informing me of a schedule change.

But of course the website won't allow you to consult bookings at the moment.

Why not hold off on sending out such emails - which will inevitably lead many to look at the reservation (I want to check my seating assignments!) when the website is offline?

I'm just clicking my way around to see what's new

While I don't like the page with the fares and flights (IMHO, font type and size and some layout design stuff), this part is nice

If you click the box "eUpgrade" you will then see options like this

Then, if you select one, you see this

But...it kind of did a bit of this for a while before it got to the page

When you are on the fare page, for example, you can click on the cabin and it opens to a page like this where you can see a summary of the services.
