Just saw the thread and it reminded me something from a past booking with Air Canada Vacations. 9 luggages for VIP Red Card !!!

That explains the most-likely-a-VIP I saw in the YYZ concierge office once. He probably had around 9 bags. And he was awaiting his escort.

To be honest, I could use that occasionally. I'm planning a trip to FRA next week and try to figure out how to combine things for 3 bags. 9 would make it much easier.

Of course it's a pile of servers, which probably isn't AC's intention here, but none the less, it would be helpful.

Interesting... whenever we have equipment to bring somewhere we almost always send our stuff by courier. We just always felt that the convenience of having our stuff with us wasn't worth the inconvenience of having to pack it, declare it, and transport it ourselves.

Cost difference is incredible for me. Take it with me ~$0...ship it ~$1000.

We're a small business, so kind of the reverse. The cost of shipping it and having someone else declare isn't worth the convenience of me not bringing it. Our most recent example, a $30 part cost $360 to ship and clear through German customs.

In this case, the shipping savings will literally pay for the entire trip, and I'm experienced enough with customs that I'm completely comfortable handling that. Plus, you have the added lottery ticket of a customs officer not caring and saving a boatload of money. Last year a trip to SIN saved us $10K in tax because no one was manning the 'to declare' lane and I was waved through.

Taking it with you, when dealing with certain governments customs etc, is a MUCH better choice. Shipping large quantities of for example computers to some companies can get held up in customs for months on end.

Has this program had a reboot?

Just flew YOW-YYZ with a VIP and guest boarded first and rather obviously in front of everyone, by two concierges, then met at YYZ by two more concierges and walked to the international gates. No BMW shuttle. On walk, since I was going that way anyway, I couldn't help overhear that conversation was whether they wanted to board international flight first, or go to lounge and board last. I think I'd have noticed this if I'd run across it before.

Not sure why it takes two concierges, but I guess it explains why they can be hard to find sometimes. Miaow.

I've certainly seen the concierge escort in the past. I've never noticed two, but there could be plenty of reasons for that. Are you sure only one was VIP? Maybe one concierge was in training? etc.

The only VIPs (with the AC VIP luggage tags) I have seen in the last year or so have all been AC employees.

I am pretty sure I recognized the guy from his picture a few times whether it was on The Verge or Wired (but pretty sure he is no AC employee) in International MLL on my YYZ-PVG, while I wanted to switch back to my old seat.

And it was a black card(MOST def not red) with 2016 on it.

Also pretty sure MLL Concierge asked him if he would like the car ride to the gate?

I'd LOVE to see the agent's reaction to checking 9 70lb bags on a Beech1900. Total cargo capacity is <1000lbs per the enroute magazine.
