If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time?
Overall experience/any other comments
The plane was a CRJ without an entertainment system. I was in the exit row for more room, but the guy beside me was leaking into my seat. He wasn't that big a guy, but these CRJ's need to be replaced. Getting tired of Air Canada using CRJ's out of Winnipeg. Also, need to get direct flights out of Winnipeg to United States. Westjet offers better flights to United States, and they have larger planes. The equipment and routes are the issue. The staff is fantastic.
Also, there is no Maple Leaf Lounge at the international part of YYC airport. No plugs to plug in electronics, and no internet.

Cabin: J (ML*1 - waitlisted T-7, upgraded at gate)
Status: SE
Pre departure
Was check in quick and efficient? Priority moved as quickly as standard, but only waited for one person. No complaints.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? No. Security was empty though
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? No lounge in SAN. Was told there will be a lounge once they finish the expansion there.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes. Well managed by the gate agents (who also brought their share of good humour).
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? No... but I don't think they were provided with any updates. The arriving flight showed a 40 minute delay -- 12:35 to 1:15, but they didn't change the departing time from 1:35.
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Well groomed, yes. Professional, that's debatable (more below). I was not addressed by my last name.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Crew provided updates after departure letting people know all connections were intact.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? I didn't check the IFE until after departure so I can't say.
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, both OJ and water were offered.
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? I didn't have a jacket, but they did offer to hang my seatmate's jacket.
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers were distributed on the ground. They ran out of Globe and Mail. Meal orders were taken in the air. I was second last to have my meal order taken (seat 4D), the last taken was beside me (4E). We were given the choice of the beef.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) About 2 hours to completion of cookies and ice cream (which was served immediately after the meal).
How was the quality of all the meals? The beef was overcooked (not surprising) but reasonably tasty. Not the best J meal I've had, but certainly not the worst.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? No. In fact, I was not offered any beverage save for a single glass of water at the 3.5 hour mark after the main course was served.
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? No checked bags. Nexus was quick, although a poor couple coming off another flight ended up in the Nexus line that didn't have Nexus. The signage in the Canadian customs hall at YYZ could still be better (this isn't completely an AC issue).
Overall experience/any other comments:
I would consider the crew on this flight the easily the worst crew I've had on AC in the past year (60+ segments). As mentioned above, meal orders did not appear to be taken by status (although perhaps this is due to the gate upgrade). As a result of catering on the flight, there were no corkscrews available, so they couldn't open any wine save for the screw-top Chardonnay (which not surprisingly ran out during the meal service). The crew knew there were no corkscrews on the flight as they announced at the gate asking if anyone happened to have one (I'm not sure why they couldn't solve this in SAN). At no point was coffee and tea offered, and in fact, after the meal service (2 hours into the flight) the FA in charge of the J cabin disappeared into the front and read her book for the remainder of the flight. The only service we had after this point was another FA coming through the cabin with glasses of water. The service in Y was better (as I was sitting in the last row of J I could hear them offering water throughout the flight).

Pre departure
Was check in quick and efficient? No. At YYC, three agents for transborder flights doing nothing while two agents handling flights to europe were backed up.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Yes and yes.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Yes. Drinks fine (appreciated more after recent vists to UA & US lounges). Food less so. Mediocre soups, salsa w/o chips, bruised fruit.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? No delay at the gate.
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Delay due to de-icing, communicated well from the flight deck.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Did not check.
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, OJ / sparkling wine / water.
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? Yes, but not until shortly before take-off.
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers were distributed on the ground. Meal orders taken on the ground by status.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) Not timed, but approximately 2 1/2 hours.
How was the quality of all the meals? Ordered the beef tenderloin. Well done, but surprisingly moist for so being. Tart for desert was nothing special. Breakfast was OK.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Beverage service stopped about 45 minutes after meal end, resumed after breakfast.
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? N/A, checked through to TXL.
Overall experience/any other comments:
Due to (understandable) delays at YYC and the puzzling decision to only open two non-EU passport control lines at FRA, nearly missed my connection to TXL.
Other than that, I feel that there has been a noticable albeit ineffable decline in service on this route over the past year. Can't necessarily point to any one thing, but it's definitely there.

On Feb 14th I flew LAS to YVR on AC 545 and we had the best Purser EVER!!! I believe his name was Jacques Cote and this fellow was fantastic. This guy was not only always smiling, and being polite, but his mannerism was outstanding, his whole persona was about how I can look after you. He and his crew never stood or sat in the corner and looked at magazines or complained about AC, they were focused on the passengers, I was in 1F so I could hear and see all.
When we landed as we were taxiing to the gate , he stood in front of the J cabin and looked at all of us, in the eyes and said thank you for our business and recognized that if it was not for us, he (they) would not be here! Then he went on and gave us a little bit of Airbus trivia and explained some technical stuff that I did not know and it was interesting. This guy was real good, I mean great.
If Air Canada can clone this fellow, man oh man they would have a world class business. This guy was great, I need Calvin's or someone "BIG" e-mail so I can share with them how great of service which was head and shoulders above the normal service we receive. I want the powers to be to know about it as I am sure some bright spark will see the fact this guy may be able to coach/teach others.

Flight/Origin-Destination: AC 856 YYZ - LHR
Date: Feb 21 2012
Cabin: J
Status: E
Pre departure
Was check in quick and efficient? Yes, was checked in and bags tagged right through to Brussels
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Yes though it was not really required. No one going through at the time
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Yes. Agree with most that it is just okay. Though when compared to something like the Senator lounge in Frankfurt, it is rather kind of sad.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes. As well, the line was policed quite efficiently.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? We were delayed over an hour due to the late arrival of the aircraft. Announcement was made in the lounge and at the gate. Pilot apologized for the delay once onboard
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Not really, rushed from the start, crew were okay, but seemed to be not interested in being there.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Delay due to late aircraft. Pilot apologized and said he would try and make the time up. Once away from the gate flight went smoothly, including no delay in arrival at LHR.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? No
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? No, despite sitting in my seat for 25 minutes before takeoff.
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? Saw that most had to ask to have their jacket hung up.
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Menus distributed and orders taken on the ground.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) Asked for the express service, 50 minutes start to finish. The woman behind me also asked for the express service, but I guess they forgot about it. She was slightly miffed.
How was the quality of all the meals? Ordered the beef, which was the worst I have had in quite a long time. Slighly burnt on the outside, tough on the inside. The sauce was okay, which helped when you soaked the beef in it. Something needs to be done about the coffee. Everytime I fly it is tasting more and more burnt. Perhaps a new coffee machine could be brought in to offer higher quality beverages.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Was offered one glass with my meal. Last I was offered before breakfast. Glass was removed without even asking if I would like another
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? Checked bag through to Brussels
Overall experience/any other comments:
Kindo f a let down of a flight. First the delay, then the mediocre service onboard. Like I said above, crew just seemed like they didnt want to be there. They were not paying attention to what they were doing and didnt really seem to care. After some great recent flights in J, this one was a dissapointment.

Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? See above.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Senator Lounge in Frankfurt's B Terminal is excellent. A definite cut above the MLLs that I've been to.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Offered, not particularly efficient; much crowding, some confusion as to who was to go where.
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Captain announced a 20 minuted delay, but did not provide reasons; overheard SD explaining to a concerned passenger that it was due to labour action in FRA.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes.
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, OJ / sparkling wine.
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? Yes.
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers were distributed on the ground. Meal orders taken on the ground by status.

Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) Not timed, but approximately 2 3/4 hours.
How was the quality of all the meals? Smoked duck excellent, one of my favourite things on AC. Ordered the beef tenderloin. Well done, not too tough. An excess of sause. Ice cream was rock-hard. Declined pre-arrival light meal.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? if one was choosing water, perhaps - other beverages stopped between dessert and light meal. Water was, however, continuously topped up.
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? Yery speedy.
Overall experience/any other comments:
Service better than on the flight over.
No 110V power in at least two J seats. USB power worked, but I can't run a laptop on that.
I thought that I may have seen jlsi984 in the SEN lounge at FRA and later in the boarding line; but, as we've never met (recognised him, if it was him, from a picture in the Globe & Mail) did not try and introduce myself.

Was check in quick and efficient? N/A, connected from TXL and checked in there.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes.

Was check in quick and efficient? No. Checked in at UA/AC desk at PIT. Priority line but not very efficient, no one in line but still had to wait longer than regular line. Seats were different than the ones selected one month ago and confirmed the DAY BEFORE over the phone with AC. Took them 30 min to figure out how to change seats. "Control-S instead of Enter" to save the seat selection! Stuck with row K instead of A on the long-haul.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Yes. At PIT.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Excellent for 2+ hr layover in YYZ. Hot and cold food, quiet, decent reading selection. Pretty good for North America.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient?
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? No problems, on board quickly.
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes. Friendly, efficient, attractive all while retaining a professional demeanor. Had same crew on return - they remembered all the px by name from the outbound and greeted us like old friends.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? NA
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, but horrid sparkling. Redeemed in the air with an excellent bottle from Reims.
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? Yes
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers and menus circulated on the ground. Meal requests taken in the air in order of status - was quite surprised that even as a *A Gold (AC nothing, US Chairman) my order was taken after the AC top tier but before the AC lower and non *A status passengers (confirmed this with purser).
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) Est 2 hours.
How was the quality of all the meals? Far better than expected, especially since I had the Alaskan Black Cod. I eat fish all over the world and recently in Alaska. I expected "Cod" to be some no-name from who-knows-where but to my pleasure it was a fine piece of fish, probably from Alaska and cooked perfectly! Few on-the-ground places are able to avoid overcooking fish. This piece was moist, tender and tasty...trust me, I know what I'm talking about here.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Absolutely. I even asked to sample the 3 reds. They were happy to comply with this request. The Malbec was to my liking. Stayed filled. Almost too much; I had to cut myself off.
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? NA
Overall experience/any other comments:
Can't say enough good things about the crew. Same team both directions and equally great. They appeared to enjoy their job (rare for FAs) and interacted professionally but friendly with the passengers. Not a single complaint. The little cloth envelope for an amenity kit was anemic compared to other airlines --- if this was my first business class flight I would have been disappointed. See my return BOG-YYZ report too.

Was check in quick and efficient? Yes. My first trip to BOG so the agent was specific and clear with navigation.
TIP: BEFORE check-in you have to get a Aeronautica Civil Exencion stamp and tax waiver. The desk is on the opposite wall from the airline check-in desks. #19 IIRC. No tax if your stay is under 30 days.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? No priority line at BOG but for this 11:55 PM flight there was only a few people going through emmigration and security. I was told security and emmigration can take hours in BOG but that was not the case at all at 9:30 PM.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Directed to the AA Admirals Lounge, also doubles as an AC and LH lounge. Dingy with a big "D" and truly with lousy food and drink offerings but WAY better than the terminal. TIP: knock on the wood panel above the alcohol display to get the attendant to open it up and replenish the bar. Many bottles were empty but they put more out on request (only). Perhaps this person is a bartender during the night but was hibernating at this late hour. On the upside, the lounge was quiet this time of night, mostly AC J-class passengers.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient?
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? Yes. This was explained at check in - as opposed to the other post here on BOG, there was an agent and a sign at the front of the (long) line. She checked my BP and cut me into the front of the line.

Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? NA

An otherwise pleasant trip ended with extreme frustration. My YYZ-PIT flight was cancelled resulting in a 3 hour fiasco requiring me to run all over the terminal and deal with nasty UA agents. Read about it elsewhere.

I would have liked more breakfast appropriate breads. I was offered the same style roll as they have for lunch and dinner. Maybe some croissant or danish?

Nothing out of the ordinary. Can't see, with a flight of this length, why there would be a J cabin; what would you get out of the experience?

Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Service good; food and drinks do not measure up to LH SEN lounges for breakfast service (well, for any time of day, really, but that's beside the point).
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes, but see below.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? Minor delay ~10 minutes, no reason given; then boarding started, stopped, then started again.
Onboard - Y cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? No noticeable delay after boarding
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service/Onboard cafe to begin? Not sure - say one hour?
How was the quality of the meal/Onboard cafe? Edible, but nothing beyond that.
Did the cabin crew offer water regularly throughout the flight? Yes.

Upgrade to J failed. Y at least half-empty - had entire row of seats to myself. Reasonably good experience for long-haul Y, but suffers in comparison to SQ Y (flown immediately thereafter), despite having a better hard product (better IFE system, 110V power in Y seating).

Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? No lineup at security, so wasn't necessary
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? No.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? Flight left on time
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Flight arrived on time
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes, but something strange related to the IFE happened (see more below in comments)
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, orange juice and water were available
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? The SD was taking jackets, I turned around and handed mine to her, presumably she would have asked me...
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers were offered on the ground. Meal orders were taken in the air according to status. I think I was the 3rd or 4th person in J to be asked. My girlfriend and my friend (neither have status with the airline) were with me on this flight. My girlfriend had been upgraded at the gate based on a confirmed J award on the return segment. The SD told her she would have to come back later for her meal order since she needed to ask SEs and Es first. My friend was confirmed in to J at T-96 as a nominee on my eUgs, his meal order was taken before my girlfriend's.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) About 2 hours
How was the quality of all the meals? All three of us happened to order the beef. Mine was pretty tough and overcooked, but my girlfriend's was actually very tender and cooked perfectly. We spoke with my friend in 1D after the flight and he mentioned his beef was also a bit overcooked. I'm not sure how it could be so inconsistent.
Did the cabin crew continiously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes, the red wine kept flowing for all of us
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? All of our bags came up quickly, among the first on the carousel.
Overall experience/any other comments:
Something kind of annoying happened related to the IFE. My girlfriend and I were seated in 4D/4F. We had settled in to our seats, all of our stuff was stowed in the pockets in front of us and had already finished juice/water, etc. At this point one of the FAs approached the couple across the aisle at 4A/4C, then informed us that the IFE at 4C wasn't working according to the maintenance log, and since my g/f was upgraded at the gate, we would have to move over to 4A/4C so the couple on the full fare would have a working IFE. I understand the rationale behind the decision, and we weren't too miffed at the fact that one of us might not have a working IFE (my girlfriend wanted to read anyway). However, I found it strange that they couldn't sort this out until we were already seated and settled in. I thought this would be something that could be done at the gate area, ie they would call us to the podium at the gate and we would be issued new BPs at 4A/4C thus avoiding the need to move us and our stuff around after we've already been seated. The kicker was that after after all that the IFE at 4C worked just fine throughout the flight!

Was check in quick and efficient? Yes
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Yes. The lineup was long for security, we saved a lot of time by taking the priority line.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? No.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? Flight was delayed due to the incoming aircraft from YYZ not arriving on time. The check-in agent informed of the delay, as did a display at the gate area, but gate agent didn't provide any information (although there wasn't really much for him to say, it was clear what was going on)
Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Flight arrived on time
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes.
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, orange juice and water were available
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? Didn't bring a jacket on the plane.
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Newspapers were offered on the ground. Meal orders were taken in the air, but apparently not according to status. The SD took orders from the back towards the front. My girlfriend and I were seated at 4D/4F and my order was the to be taken even though the guy in front of me was an SE (he stated loudly, but I think somewhat tongue-in-cheek, that he was SUPER elite to his colleagues in Y).
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) About 2 hours
How was the quality of all the meals? As the SD was serving the salad trays, I was the last to be served. When she got to me she realized she was somehow down one of the salad/silverware trays... The SD ran off to the back and pulled together a cucumber and tomato salad in place of the standard one. It was actually nice to have something different from the usual salad, and I could still share some of my girlfriend's salad too. The missing tray wasn't her fault, and I appreciated the effort she took to throw something together on the fly like that. My girlfriend got the beef and I got the pasta. The beef was overcooked, the lasagna was nice.

Overall experience/any other comments:
Generally a positive experience, as mentioned above the SD made a great effort during the meal service to correct a problem that was out of her control. A shame that my friend's u/g didn't clear as all three of us were in J together on the outbound flight to SAN. My g/f didn't want her cookies and ice cream, so we went back and offered them to him as consolation... not much but it's the thought that counts I guess...

Was check in quick and efficient? Yes
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? No, connecting from another airport, plus not available
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? No, not available.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? NA.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? NO delay
Onboard - Y cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? No noticeable delay after boarding
Was the IFE activated on the ground? No, it was a pineapple
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service/Onboard cafe to begin? About 1.5 hours, due to turbulence?
How was the quality of the meal/Onboard cafe? No fully stocked, no pizza, 6 year old really wanted the pizza, very disappointed, however the hot meal of vegetarian pasta worked and was good.
Did the cabin crew offer water regularly throughout the flight? Yes.
Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? All of our bags arrived, but it took forever. They seemed to come up in groups of 10-12 bags then a delay of 5 min for next batch. Connecting drop off for customs was closed and had to take bags to domestic. What should been enough time to to connect (approx 1.5) had us arriving at about the scheduled departure time for connecting flight. There wqere several of us making this connection.
Overall experience/any other comments:
Generally a positive experience, pizza not available a drawback, baggage service at YVR was abysmal.
