Flight/Origin-Destination: AC 93 , EZE-SCL-YYZ
Date: Friday July 22, 2011
Cabin:J
Status: AC*E

Pre departure
Was check in quick and efficient?
Yes. Used Exec class checkin at EZE to get my boarding pass.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? N/A at EZE.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Used RCC. I've been here last year. It suffices to say the least.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? The gate area was packed but the Priority Boarding was clearly laid out and I got on very quickly.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? The flight was delayed 4 hours because of issues in Toronto (this flight comes in from YYZ-SCL and had maintenance issues resulting in an equipment change in YYZ).

Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed?

Lets make this clear. The Flight was already delayed about 4 hours when it finally got into EZE. Quick groom and we boarded. Then we sat another 1.5 hours because of a computer navigation issue. Let me say this-the J cabin crew sucked. Can I repeat that? SUCKED during the Delay as we sat there. All I got was a glass of water. The crew pretty much went to "off" mode as the issue was resolved. They really seemed disinterested and the SD had this smug attitude that I didn't like. To top it off, the maintenance crew turned off the plane to reset the navigation computer. We sat in pitch dark-J cabin wasn't so bad but Y cabin was pitch dark from what I could tell. Apparently some female passenger got scared and was panicking and I overheard the crew laughing and giggling about her. Like Seriously? EPIC FAIL and I hope this read how deplorable I believe their general attitude was. Once the flight finally took off the service was good, but again it was very robotic and no real caring attitude. Fast forward to crew change in SCL and BHAM I get the same crew that I mentioned in a my YYZ-SCL review. WOW. What a difference. Absolutely 100% fantastic. They remembered me, were friendly with everyone, worked their butt off throughout the flights. Hands off to the SCL-YYZ crew that night.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Sort of. The Pilots would come on sporadically and I did hear one of the Y cabin crew complain that the pilots should really be providing more updates. Any update, because people were getting restless. Epic Fail Pilots!
Was the IFE activated on the ground? Yes
Was a pre-departure beverage offered on the ground? Yes, OJ, Champagne or Water at EZE and SCL.
Did crew offer to hang your jacket? N/A
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Yes to all. Meal Orders taken once taken off.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) about 2 hours.
How was the quality of all the meals? EZE-SCL was a cold chicken plate. Not Bad. SCL-YYZ I had the Hot Chicken Plate. It was good. Fast and made me pass out for the night which is good :)
Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes, as dit turned out to be a night flight it was refilled as needed.

Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time?
N/A

Overall experience/any other comments

Again, flight was delayed 4 hours initially out of Toronto. Then another 1.5 hours out of EZE. The Pilots did a terrible job of updating the passengers. The EZE-SCL cabin crew in "J" really seemed disinterested and quite honestly should be talked to about their attitudes and of course their amusement of an Y passenger that was panicking over being in the dark and I'm sorry, you don't just turn on your "Care" when the flight finally leaves the gate. Give me a break. On the other hand, the SCL-YYZ were just fantastic and really if I had gotten their names I would mention them! They should pat themselves on their back (and as previously mentioned I had that particular crew from YYZ-SCL and the service was fantastic as well). Flight arrived at YYZ and then the ground crew made us wait. Mechnical issues happen so no big deal but general attitude of the EZE-SCL crew put salt on the wound.

Was check in quick and efficient? Basically. Checked in online but wanted to print boarding pass at gate; arrived too close to scheduled deparature time to use the kiosk so stuck with 8.5 x 11 paper.

This was an odd one -- flight attendant seemed to have a very Parisian attitude toward customer service if you know what I mean. She handed out headphones but decided to skip me. When I asked for a set, she was shocked. Snack appeared to be chicken kebab with a dipping sauce and a heinous potato salad. However, my plate lacked the chicken (which was fine I didn't eat it) -- just a few dollops of wretched potato salad an a little plastic up of some sort of red sauce.

Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient?
Yes - but it didn't help much.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? Yes. Before this, I had only used the MLL in the international terminal. This was a bit of a step down -- too many kids running around unsupervised and food wasn't as good. It was perfectly fine but not special.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes - but 1/3 of the plane must have been elite or in business. I ended up cutting over to the economy line and getting on pretty quickly.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? The flight was on time until it wasn't. Never clear why they waited so long to board or what slowed it down.

Onboard - J cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes - very good and attentive crew.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? See above.

Did crew offer to hang your jacket? N/A
Were newspapers & menus distributed and meal orders taken (Please specify when meal orders were taken - on the ground or in the air)? Yes to all. Meal Orders taken once taken off. Appeared to be by status.
Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? yes.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service to be completed? (From takeoff to all items collected) about 2 hours.
How was the quality of all the meals? Salmon and rice. Rice was excellent; salmon just so so. Was disappointed that they don't serve champagne on domestic flights.
Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yes.

Love the executive first seat. I find it very comfortable because I get fidgety and like lots of different seat positions. Was in 1A which I liked a lot.

Need Ice Cream in YVR International MLL! :)
And frankly, need some happy faces behind YYZ MLL counter that morning.
Over heard the FA a few seats were 'broken' in J and need to adjust them manually.
FA also reported 3/4 of IFE screens are not working and rebooted a few times. Mine was ok.

FA are very good. Always refer me as Mr. xxxxxx. Very attentive
IFE is a bit broken... Some movie thumbnail won't show, the joystick on the remote seems stuck on a upward motion. At time making screen selection could be a challenge.
Minor note on the utensils, both times, the knife I got still has bits of dried food on them.

Brilliant overnight service. SD put the customer first, allowing those who wanted to sleep to quickly do so, while still serving those who wanted to stay up to the Air Canada standards. This SD should be teaching the class on how to handle service on overnight flights. The best red-eye I think I've ever flown.

If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates?
Minor delayed boarding (around 16:30), then the plane left for the tarmac and sat over an hour. Intially they updated us approx 15-30 mins intervals, saying we should be able to leave in 20-60 mins then got longer and longer with no announcements for over an hour until passengers complained to the FA about it.

Approx at 19:00 the plane parked at the gate again, but was only allowed to get off after 19:30 (when ground staff was coordinated). By the time we wanted to get off, we were told by the pilot that the flight is scheduled to depart at 20:30 (with conflicting info coming in between AC Dispatch and the FAA).

By the time we were ready to take off, they realized the crew timed out and needed to find a replacement crew..... We were promised a crew is coming in from YUL approx 21:00, but never materialized. Subsequently approx 21:15 the flight got cancelled.

At ticketing, I lined up at the Elite line and was ignored. After 30 mins of waiting at the E line, I approached the ticketing counter and was told by the ticketing staff that being an Elite I should know better in handling delayed circumstances and further advised if I wasn't happy I should go and take the bus to New York. Ground staff did not provide me information about Trip Interruption Hotel rates nor did they want to book me on the 08:00+1 flight out. Meanwhile GHT managed to get AC Res on the phone to rebook me on other delayed departures leaving that evening to either EWR/LGA, but the check in agent refused to check me in.

Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Yup, throughout the ground

Overall experience/any other comments
While I understand the weather implications on aviation traffic and crew time/safety, I was very disappointed by the overall experience of holding us on board, giving us false hopes, underestimating the crew timeout and followed by rude check in / ticketing agents not appreciating my business and wanting me to take the bus to NYC instead.

Flight/Origin-Destination: AC7530 YTZ - YUL
Date: July 10th
Cabin: Y
Status: Companion had Star Alliance Gold via ANA Platinum card, but we didn't need it!

Pre departure

Was check in quick and efficient? It was our first time at Toronto city airport. Lack of info on the pre-ferry side made us a little confused, so we asked a staff member (I don't remember if Air Canada had someone or if it was Porter staff): kiosk check-in, then ferry, then luggage drop-off. We didn't have to wait anywhere though.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? No waits for security either.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? We were pretty curious to see what kind of lounge the business-oriented city airport would have, but when we got past security we found something altogether different. There was no exclusive lounge, but the whole waiting area felt like one. A labrynth of comfy chairs, end tables, and lamps instead of the standard row seating, with little cubicle walls for semi-privacy. A hot/cold drink bar and nonperishable snacks (biscotti went like hotcakes). Basically a slightly less luxurious alcohol-free lounge, but for the general public. We LOVED this. A room full of computers was in constant use also.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Wasn't offered - there can't have been more than 10 people on the plane, so it was a non-issue.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? I think there was and they did, but we were so comfy we didn't mind the delay.

Onboard - Y cabin:
Were the crew professional & well groomed? Yes.
If there was a delay, were you provided with timely updates? Yes.
Was the IFE activated on the ground? I think so.
Approximately how long after take off did it take for the first meal service/Onboard cafe to begin? Not long.
How was the quality of the meal/Onboard cafe? We got completely spoiled, partly because there were so few passengers, and partly because AC is trying to promoting this flight by offering super nice service. Alcohol available for free during drink service, as well as a ton of snack options including lindt chocolate and chips, as I recall. She let us pick a ton of drinks and snacks, dunno if this is the rule or if it was because the plane was so empty, but we were very happy campers.
Did the cabin crew offer water regularly throughout the flight? It was only about an hour long flight, and we might have actually been offered full drink service twice. It was plenty, anyway.

Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time? No problems here.

Overall experience/any other comments
We left way more time than we needed for getting to the airport and through security and it turned out we were well in time for a flight an hour earlier, but when I asked the gate staff he said it would cost me $100 (per person? didn't ask) to change the flight. It was no-status me that asked and not my crazy status boyfriend, so I don't know if that would have made a difference. The earlier flight wasn't near full, so the way I see it it would've been win-win to let us on the earlier flight - we get home sooner and vow to use AC and city airport whenever possible, they free up more room on a later flight and reduce their risk of being responsible for us in the event that our flight (I believe the last one of the night) gets cancelled for some reason. We still had a great experience, but this would have been extremely nice icing on the cake.

Arrived at HKG 40 minutes behind schedule due to detour to avoid the typhoon over Eastern China. CX sent a staff standing outside the arrival gate to catch all the connecting pax and guide us expeditiously to the connecting CX flight departing in 50 minutes of our arrival^.

Further security required at LHR during airside/airside transfer T1 to T3. I assume that non UK PAX can mix with previously security cleared UK PAX during the flight Connections process.
The AC/SK London Lounge was busy. Food and drink items were fine.:)
An AC rep did visit the Lounge during the long wait offering AC859 PAX the chance to eat outside the Lounge at AC expense. I did not take up this offer.
The agent also explained about the 4 hour delay and the use of the aircraft from the inbound AC868 daylighter.
Priority passport check line and boarding used. No further delays beyond the 4 hours and a very full flight.

Onboard: - J cabin:
The crew were professional & well groomed but appeared somewhat tired as were the PAX! I think I was greeted by name.
The crew explained further about the delay.
I don't think the IFE was activated on the ground.
No pre-departure beverage of orange juice, sparkling wine, or water was offered on the ground. (or indeed at any time!)
No jacket to hang. From observation, only a few J PAX had jackets!
Newspapers & menus were distributed. Meal orders were taken on the ground.
A hot towel service prior to the meal was offered.
Meal service lasted about 2hr from ATD.
The quality of the dinner was satisfactory however it appeared somewhat 'rushed'. From observation, a passenger nearby me was 'missed' from part of the service. The 2nd meal was like most of us rather 'tired' the scone from the scone and jam had totally 're-tired' - it had disappeared!!

There was a cabin crew member available most of the time for beverage service throughout the flight.

Post departure /arrival: Flight made up some time en-route, and arrived at the gate 3hr 50mins late. Immigration/customs OK and a quick transfer to YYZ hotel before Viscount Station fine!

Overall experience: For a Z paid fare not a good flight. :(:td:

Pre departure
Was check in quick and efficient?
Yes. Nobody in line as I was 3 hours early.
Did you use priority security (if eligible) and if so, was it quick and efficient? Not available at PVG.
Did you use the Maple Leaf lounge and if so, any feedback in regards to service, food and drinks? No MLL, used Shanghai Airlines lounge at T2.
Was priority boarding offered (if applicable to your status) and efficient? Yes. Like all Asian airports the F/J lines are quite far from Y lines.^.
If there was a delay, did the gate agent provide timely updates? No delay. Rare in China.

Onboard - J cabin:

Did crew offer a hot towel prior to the meal service? Yes. I wish they also offer one when I board as it was hot and humid.

How was the quality of all the meals? As expected. The sole was was excellent.
Did the cabin crew continuously top up the beverage of your choice throughout the flight? Spotty. Not every hour as expected. Bottled water (in addition to one already in seat) was offered instead of in a glass.

Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time?
About 25 minutes at YVR. My priority checked luggage out about in the middle of the run, not at the beginning.

Overall experience/any other comments
IFE cannot play flight safety demo, manual/life safety demo instead. Meal table stuck inside the panel, needs to push down, hold, then pull and let it pop up. FA said this is a common problem. AC did get a rotten deal on their XM equipment: the Thales IFE NEVER worked 100%, now broken table. It has only been in use for 3-4 years. On the bright side, the map function worked.

Post departure
If you have checked baggage, did it arrive within reasonable period of time?
yes - priority baggage worked very well this time.

Overall experience/any other comments. The crew on this flight was exceptional - main reason why I'm writing this report. The were genuinely friendly and attentive, and that seemed to include the Y crew as well as J. If you had a crews like that on every flight, you would probably have every plane filled to capacity (to emphasize: my experience is that most crews on AC are very good, but this group was exceptional. Wish I had taken their name to write a letter to AC). Its also worth noting that flight attendant on AC459 in J that same day was also extremely good.
