Not in my experience. I was in J, standing by for an earlier YYZ-YUL.

Another FTer was on that flight, on a J or F reward, but in Y on that flight.

His definitely cleared before mine.

Yup but you were on standby - that's probably different from a Y->J upgrade, no?

Sure, but it's lower priority.

Which is really stupid, since I want to go on standby on a revenue business ticket this Sunday. I shouldn't be behind any X->I upgrades.

Would all of the following options be possible?

Option 1
YVR-TPE in BR Y *Stop*
TPE-HKG in BR Y *Turn*
HKG-PEK in CR Y
PEK-FRA in CR Y
FRA-LHR in LH Y *Stop*
LHR-ORD in UA Y
ORD-YVR in UA Y

Option 2
YVR-TPE in BR Y
TPE-HKG in BR Y *Stop*
HKG-PEK in CR Y
PEK-FRA in CR Y
FRA-LHR in LH Y *Turn*
LHR-IST in TK Y
IST-HKG in TK Y *Stop*
HKG-TPE in BR Y
TPE-YVR in BR Y

Option 3
YVR-YYC in AC Y
YYC-LHR in AC Y *Stop*
LHR-PEK in CS Y
PEK-HKG in CS Y *Turn*
HKG-PEK in CS Y
PEK-LHR in CS Y *Stop*
LHR-YVR in AC Y

Advice and opinions would be much appreciated. Essentially I would like to go from YVR-LHR then back to YVR, but with a chance to spend time in Hong Kong.

Also as I have *G on A3, would I be able to add this to my itinerary once booked to increase my baggage allowance, etc.? Thank you.

Option 1 looks good. Option 2 is not permitted as the return is way over MPM as your POT is HKG. Option 3 looks good too but YQ is going to be a bit heavier since you'r flying AC.

Option 2 is illegal. Hong Kong is your turnaround point, it's not up to you to decide what's turnaround - it's set by the furthest point from origin that you have as a stopover.

As such, you're going HKG-LHR-HKG-YVR as a return, which is extremely over mpm, and backtracking to Hong Kong to boot.

Bangkok Stopover

Doing a mii rtw in Jan.

yyz/syd ( stop) J class

syd/bkk (stop)/zrh/mia/yyz

we live in mia so we are just going to miss the last leg

here is the question.

we are less keen on spending 5 days in BKK due to the politcal sitaution.

will Aeroplan let me change for no charge?

If I wait then the zrh/mia flights will be gone ( febraury 2015)

ok, you want Aeroplan to waive the change fee due to the political situation today for a flight in 7 months

Plus there is nothing really extreme going on there. I had a stopover in BKK right when the curfew hit. Some places were open going into the curfew and there wasn't even a problem getting a taxi during the curfew hours.

I didn't see any military presence at all and no special police presence.

It could of course get bad but at the moment it actually made a lot of things better.

About the only certainty is that the 'political situation' in Bangkok will change completely two or three more times before you arrive.

Keep in mind that neither the government, the protesters or the military are stupid people; all sides have made it clear that they don't want tourism affected any more than necessary. For example, the airport has been exempted from the curfew, and an airline ticket will get you past the roadblocks without issue. http://tinyurl.com/mt84a9x

We spent several days in Bangkok at the height of the protests, and everything was business as usual save for a few city blocks downtown. At one Skytrain station, a very helpful team of protesters with signs urging the downfall of the Prime Minister were assisting tourists in finding the mall, Starbucks, the movie theatre, etc.., while directing fellow protesters to the correct streets to engage with the police.

By the time you're an hour outside Bangkok, you'll barely hear the 'situation' mentioned once in a week.

I certainly felt safer in downtown Bangkok during the "political situation" there than I ever have in large parts of Los Angeles, Mexico City or London on a "normal day" there.

Contrary to other responders, I will state you will definitely have access to
RCC in SFO based on your E50 *G status.

Changing starting point of a mini-RTW?

Hi folks,

Just starting to plan a mini-RTW for Sept 2015, only problem is we're not sure if we'll be living in Vancouver or Ottawa by that point.

If I book a trip going YVR-YYZ-FRA-LHR-YYZ-YVR, would it be possible to change it later to instead go YOW-YYZ-FRA-LHR-YYZ-YOW?

I'm assuming YOW-YYZ availability won't be too bad, and it's hardly the end of the world if we get stuck in Y for the YOW-YYZ legs.

Since we'd be reducing our miles flown, do I have it right that we should only incur the change fee on this?

Thanks!
