Lots of sticky threads in this forum now. That means there are lots of resources to help get you started on your FlyerTalk journey!

Some content is probably duplicated or could be merged into other threads to reduce the number of stickies. Please feel free to post in this thread any suggestions you have on how to better organize the content. Also, please feel free to utilize thread wikiposts (either editing existing ones or creating new ones where applicable) to help organize content.

Flame-free threads elsewhere on FlyerTalk
The Information Desk forum is a safe and flame-free place for members (especially newer members) to post questions. It is also a good place for questions which do not easily fit in a single forum. However, if you know which forum on FlyerTalk is best suited for your question but don't want unfriendly responses, there are also a number of flame-free threads for program specific questions. They are often labelled "Newbie Lounge" but everybody is welcome to post questions there.

Another new information desk resource!
We've added a http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/infor...ion-about.html thread. It includes a wikipost with a topic index to help you figure out where to find information throughout the FlyerTalk site. It's a work in progress, so if you feel there's something missing, please let us know!

Hi, I am new to this blog, found it referenced on CC. I got hooked on it after 48 hours and then was listening to Judge John Hodgman and there was Jesse and Ty (sp?) and cracked up. Now to my questions, I need to know if there is a list of the acronyms used in the posts. I have figured out some on them but need to know what Y and J and F when posters are referring to the aircraft.
Thanks

Taking it to the Next Level & Local User Group
I wouldn't dare say that I have a handle on the basics but I am very curious about how to take it to 'the next level' in terms of building an appreciable (substantial?) miles/points balance and squeezing the most out of them.

Is there a FlyerTalk Local User Group for the Washington DC area? (Didn't see one here.)

Those "group" things in the forum software never took off.

DC people do get together regularly. You'll want to keep an eye on CommunityBuzz for talk about meet-ups and things. There's a very active thread in there called the "DC Happy Hour" thread or similar. It's just people meeting usually for dinner, but meeting people in person is one of the best ways to ask questions and pick up tidbits from knowledgeable people all while having a good time over some good food.

Travel Agent Question
Years ago, a travel agent friend of mine was able to run a search on a friend's name on an international flight and confirm a booking/seat. She placed my seat right next to her as a favor to both of us. If someone has a flight number, is there an interface that a travel agent can use to view the passenger list? Thank you in advance.

Getting Started
How do you Submit First Query. I did find info saying go to relevant forum and then New Thread. I did find relevant forum (MCT at airports http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/searc...rt-connections ) But I can't find 'New Thread' within the forum. As you will gather I am a new member. Thanks.
