I don't think aircraft availability will be the issue for Boston, not in the short-term. I've flown this route. Not an expert, but heard airport readiness is the challenge.

True, its a fairly small airport as compared to the other airports in the US where EK operates. Last time flight got delayed by 45 minutes because an AirFrance plane was not able to leave the gate on time and they had to change the gate for EK. Don't think its geared to handle an A380 for now at least.

From December 2014, A380 to replace B77W on both Houston and San Francisco routes.

Why does the a380 route to IAH have two more seats than the SFO route?

F14 C76 Y401 all new A380 ULR version starting with A6-EEU

So I can assume the IAH will be served by the new version of the A380 ULR?

Am I right in thinking the newest ULR A380s have seats 80A/K? so the coveted 81A/K is no longer an exit row?

That`s right; but aircraft changes are very well possible.

About time San Francisco got the A380.

Where exactly did they fit in the two other seats? I've only flown the 399-seat and 407-seat (non-ULR) version.

Edit: Nvm, answered already (80 A/K)

New Aircraft have more efficient seat map

As I understand it, Only the latest delivered (or soon-to-be delivered) A380's with various performance enhancements can make it on the long IAH flight, and these aircraft are configured slightly differently than the older ones due to relocation of some IFE equipment they can fit an additional seat-pair somewhere in the back. The older ones with the fewer seats have the range for other markets, such as SFO, but not quite for IAH.

It seems strange to me that SFO is closer to DXB than IAH but thanks to the geometry of our globe, it's true!

GCMap shows SFO-DXB at 8103 mi and IAH-DXB at 8168 so the flight is a little bit longer out of Houston. But I checked LAX-DXB and SeatGuru shows V1 (Y399) on that route even though it's even longer (8339 mi).

Forgive my newbie question, but is there more in play than just the range? Do they need a new version for IAH due to carrying more cargo than out of LAX?
