My guess is they've done the cost benefit on this and figure 5% reduction in network is better than leasing a few more 737s to cover it. Where the MAX is hurting WS the most is range - there's several routes they can't fly without them, and they really want to (like YYC/YEG-HNL/OGG, YOW-LGW and YYZ-DUB - though DUB could be done with a 789 and YYC-OGG they are doing with a 789).

They may well be able to, but the NGs won't give the fuel savings that the MAX or the neos will. So used NGs may help in the near term but I doubt they're on the horizon for the long term. So in order to obtain new fuel efficient a/c WS has no choice but to wait it seems.

I believe my wife left Halifax at 1715 (instead of 2300 on the direct flight), had a 5 hour layover in YUL and landed at CDG about 2 hours later than the original YHZ-CDG flight. When rebooking the YHZ-CDG flight thorough expedia, the agent was looking at AF flights via YUL and YYZ. There was an earlier connection at YUL, and due to flight delays from Halifax, they did hold the Air France Plane in YUL for those connecting to the earlier flight; however my wife was on the later flight out of YUL.

Here's an article about the TK settlement.

But the new planes won’t boost capacity or replace flights on routes previously planned for the 737 Max jets, which are bigger than the A220 and thus designated for routes with higher traffic.

If someone gave a choice between flying on an A220 or a 737, I’d pick the Airbus. You’re right about capacity but the A220 has comfort, quality, and efficiency on it’s side. That rep is worth money.

Air Canada has also broken with tradition on their narrow bodies of using cloth seats, the A220 now has leather seats, which I prefer. One other feature of the A220 I particularly like is the large windows, noticeably bigger than on the B737 or A320.

As Westjet and Air Canada have noted that they won't be flying the MAX until at least July now. I booked a trip to Toronto from Edmonton yesterday for early June and noticed that they still had the MAX 8 flying on one of the daily routes. When would they make the change to the schedule to note this? I'm kind of surprised they have not done this.

Edit: we're being issued power-only cables that don't allow an attack via the Thunderbolt ports.
