Last time I tried this (to be helpful on a full flight) it was interpreted as "no, thank you, I don't want ANY meal."

This is what I do---low fat/cholesterol.... and even as a lowly 1k, 2MM flyer I usually get it!

As always, great questions from a pro.

Believe it or not, the fruit plate is better than the omelet! (Unless things have changed since I had the omelet about 3 months ago.....) It was rubbery and tasteless. The fruit plate has yogurt and sometimes even cereal, and you'll get to choose a croissant or other pastry, so it's not all fruit. Until they do better with the hot breakfast, I'm a fan of the fruit plate.

Now you can tell everyone that in UA FC they always get a choice of meals. And, you can give out a few FC meals to E customers, likely by status. And the cost? That equals the cost difference between a FC meal and and E meal (maybe $5 each, if that) times the number of FC seats.

My guess is if they got 1 extra FC customer every 10 flights from this, they would break even or make money.
This is so obvious to me.... why ration an option when you could just provide a few more meals at very modest costs to satify your best customers? If G Tilton worked for me rather than when I worked for him, I would have expected such a simple, inexpensive recommendation form him. IMHO, he would understand.

[QUOTE=iwillflytheworld;7095187] I agree that paid F should give priority over upgraders such as myself. [QUOTE]

I agree with you. But not everyone is so agreeable. Two years ago I flew domestic First on an A320 using A-class fare. The FA asked me for my meal choice first. This upset a pax behind me who huffed so loudly I couldnt hear the choice! The FA then went to him for his meal choice and he complained that as MM 1K, he should have been asked before anyone else. Without hesitation the FA said according to the note on the manifest: I was the only pax on an F-class fare, and he like the rest of the cabin had upgraded.

It's a catch 22, no win-win situation, someone will get upset.

BTW I am seeing a lot more UGS flying around, than I ever have before. Virtually every seat neigbor! All of the one's I've spoken too, got it as part of a company contract.

I've noticed this too, actually. A few weeks ago, flying ORD-LGA, I got to talking with my seatmate who, it turned out, was UGS. Long story short, she barely makes 1P, and didn't even fly UA until the middle of last year. But, to paraphrase her words, "my company gets UGS." I didn't press whether that meant her company had a handful of UGS cards to hand out or if everyone got the benefits. She wasn't aware of many UGS benefits.

You clearly have not flown SFO-BOS on Monday AM or Thursday PM either. The gate agents often board those flights in the order F > UGS in coach > 1Ks in coach.

More 2nd Class First Class treatment

First my .02 on the meal choice. I think UA needs to offer better meal selections period. I mean, simple and more likely not to be rejected meal choice. The fancy options that usually fail horrible need to go. IMHO, fish tends to have people who strongly object, whereas chicken is more acceptable even as a second choice. Also, items like pasta with a choice of meat or no meat sauce could stretch options.

YOW-ORD last week there was a non-rev in F. The purser and non-rev talked the entire time. Service was limited to pressing the call button for a drink or snack. Absolutely no attention paid to the F pax. The poor second FA was literally left working the Y cabin alone.

So lets say the priority is setup this way

Fare Class
Status
Upgrades,
Op-Up's
etc

Where do you put friends, familiy, etc on the same PNR in the list. Do they order when the status member orders or do they wait?

Houston always has some kind of Oil and Gas convention. For example, there was a Oil & Gas technology related convention in Houston last Thursday and Friday. I am pretty sure there was something going on in the city when you flew few weeks ago. You probably just picked a bad day to fly from IAH-SFO.

You are right, IAH -SFO flight is always packed. I fly UA to Asia often and that flight is the only UA non-stop flight from IAH to West Coast for Asia flight connection.

As far as larger plane, IAH terminal A can handle UA's 757 and I believe the UA will sell out seats on 757 just as well.
