Currently scheduled on UA682 (DEN-ORD) on 12/27. Kind of a fun way to start my RTW ^ Plus I've never flown the new C on the 777, so I'm looking forward to seeing how the cabin feels..
Also scheduled on UA891 (NRT-ICN) on 12/29.

Seating Question
I have checked United Cargo and have found my flight IAD/GIG 15/12 has had an equipment change from old 777 to 77Q. I have a confirmed seat (Aeroplan points) in 3J. There are 9 seats showing as sold and the new configuration only has 8 seats. Should I change my booking to
1A just in case? What are the chances of getting bumped to business class? I have had this reservation for almost a year!!! If my seat disappears, is there a chance that I lose out?
I called United and spoke with a supervisor who says that there is no equipment change showing even with Scheduling Dept.
Can anyone help a newbie out here? I don't want to lose the first class seat!!

Just noticed is Aeroplan points for the F. Award tickets are a crap shoot. You would get downgraded before any paid F.

Are you on UA861 IAD-GRU-GIG? If so, the mobile site seems to think that IAD-GRU is N225UA on Thursday, which is indeed a 77Q. The GRU-GIG leg appears slotted to be N221UA, an old config XP.

swap to new config
Was surprised by a swap to the new config on UA317 SFO-LAX today - very nice, too bad the flight wasn't longer. This aircraft continued on UA891 to Narita.

A similar swap was made on that same flight last Thursday. I had 8J, but then elected to take an earlier flight do to some business meetings that were rearranged. Oh well, like you say, this is a very short flight.

I am thinking that I should change my seat assignment to 1A and that might help me keep my seat. I can't imagine that there are 8 people paying for the seat. There were lots of award seats when I booked. Very strange since we don't change planes in GRU just a drop off and a pick up.

I am extremely reluctant to book IAD-DXB, because of the uncertainty.
If I paid that much to sit in Business Class, I want the flat bed.
If UA can't offer the flat bed, they should lower the prices/restrictions, on flights that don't offer it.
Surely UA has enough converted 777s to guarantee certain routes will have it?

Originally, they were meant to be focused on LHR. Of my 15 777 segments this year to/from LHR, only 2 have been on the new configuration. As an E+ flyer, that is a good thing, but I hate the scramble for seats as all 15 have shown new configuration on booking.

I don't think changing your seat will help your situation. If someone needs to lose a seat, they will go based on whatever criteria (paid before award), and will then reassign seats.

LAX-NRT in April 2012 got confirmed in new config. While not sure, is that a typical route these days?
