Upsells after SWU ?

I have two tickets booked in C; W class upgraded with SWUs. Is it possible to further upgrade to first using cash either at checkin or at the gate with upgraded tickets?

thanks

LAX-NRT OLCI Y->C for $631

OLCI for tomorrow's SAN-LAX-NRT-BKK offered upsell Y->C for the LAX-NRT leg for $631, declined.

This is a miles and money ticket, so it may have errored had I followed up.

I was tempted, but:
  1. My travel companion is not interested.
  2. We are already in 21 H/J crew rest configuration.
  3. A generous Flyertalker is already sponsoring RCC in LAX and NRT.

If you don't mind me asking, what was your original fare class / original ticket cost?

$631 is a tempting offer for this flight. I might have taken it...

Miles and Money (XYMDSM) = 30K and $580 (SAN-LAX-NRT-BKK). The offer was for the LAX-NRT seg. Like I said, I did not go beyond the offer page, but it's possible the fare is not even actually eligible.

But, yeah, nice price. If I were in a middle in E- I might have done it, but that's almost 20,000 baht I would not have for Thailand, so mai ao khop khun khrop this time.

A friend of mine got a $650 upgrade at the gate in an L fare to C from IAD-EZE. Otherwise it would have been $500 + 25K miles. He wisely chose the former.

And of course the Upgrade Fairy came through 72+ hours out and confirmed. Glad I declined...

I think Cash trumping SWU was in place long before Smisek.

Does the "no double upgrade" rule apply when cash is involved? Can cash plus an W fare/SWU upgrade to C yield F?

That technically isn't supposed to happen (though I know experiences in places like SYD are to the contrary)

just booked ORD-FRA-IST-FRA-ORD in May for Ms. ORDOGG and myself. At purchase, offered an upsell from Y to C on FRA-ORD (ORD-FRA NC0) for $999 each from a W fare.

I calmly applied 2 SWUS which cleared because flight was NC > 0

I'm offered an upsell on everything I book anymore, even if it is only one segment. I did take the one way out to Hawaii but? For the return, I got it anyhow

Correct, The Chickens should not offer upsells if there are waitlisted pax but some agents in overseas stations will do a cash upgrade if they are asked.
