Randomly spotted a 763 (N664UA) out of commission for exactly a week between flights. Last flown January 6, next flight January 13.

Would only work assuming there are extra parts and labor around to make those conversions possible. While it would make sense given that those planes are idle, don't think UA would pay for that. Unless they swap the conversions from other plane type and keep those older planes flying.

Why is the A321neo so slow
Look at the inflight mag. All other aircraft are speed listed at 530MPH and up. But the 321neo is 518mph cruise. Slower than even a EMB 170 at 520MPH. I know this is not in reality the cruise speed. But it still should provide a relative compare

All else being equal, that should only mean about a five minute difference in flight time on an 1,800 mile flight (roughly ORD-SFO)

still be compared to a 787 that’s nearly 42MPH. 25-30 mins in a transcon is marginally significant IMHO

On cruising speed, perhaps focusing on the types of engines instead of just looking at aircraft types may provide better explanation?
I don't have the answers but when I look for car mileage and acceleration etc, I focus on the car engines rather than just looking at, for example, Subaru Forrester vs Honda CR-V. (both come with different engine options)

737NG/MAX and A320 are not materially different in terms of cruise speed. Obviously, lots of factors besides capability of the aircraft go into actual cruise speed in service.
757/767 slightly faster, and 777/787 are faster still. Comparing inflight time on same sector between A32X/737 and 777/787 would show that the WB is generally faster.

per Hemispheres
and on a flight like TLV-EWR that can be 20-30 mins.
in terms of A320 vs A321neo this is a good question why the NEO has more thrust and yet is slower vs A320
