almost the exact same profile, still showing 1K — BOS based, 56k PQP on 60 segments, and an additional $3k was lost due to a mechanical that resulted in a refunded trip in vain, which obviously doesn’t count but will kill me if that ends up being the difference, especially since we sat on that broken 752 for six hours before departing and then returning to the gate. Sigh.

I'm currently 1K (ORD, 54K PQP on 70 segments, ~40K PQP the last two years) and the welcome to 1K letter just popped up on mystatus as of today - hopefully they're still reviewing/it could change but not feeling super hopeful. I also got an email from them last Wednesday that something in my MileagePlus account had been updated, but I didn't see any changes - not sure if that meant anything.

So today, my status tracker has changed to include a stupid letter from Kirby saying welcome to 1K status. I assume this means I didn't make GS. With this much flying last year (over 58K PGP on United metal in 49 segments) I don't know how I'd ever make it. I wonder if that segment that they pushed me on an Air Canada from Paris after they canceled the UA flight screwed me. I've asked for Original Routing Credit but their customer service is so clueless that they think I wanted to make sure that I got the miles credited. Is there a way to appeal for GS or do a challenge if you weren't previously GS? I'm pretty disappointed and feel like simply switching off UA at this point.

My main account has been locked out and I’ve tried contacting support for over two weeks. Anyhow - received notification on Jan 3rd. Welcome Letter popped up today on the website and also for the first time there’s an tile in the app with a congratulations message. I also received a phone call today.
SFO based $51,500 UA PQP 47 PQF 47 CPM 11th year and 2MM, which I think matters - I’m bumping between $50-80k / year consistently except 2020. Interesting dynamic this year with colleagues with slightly more spend not seeming to get a renewal so far. |
Pretty much the same situation for me. I had that happen twice to me this year, once was switched onto Eurowings (ugh) because my Polaris flight was cancelled and then a second time was switched onto Air New Zealand because we would have misconnected (also in Polaris). Unlike you I didn't try to get the original routing credit of PQP because it seemed like more effort than it was worth.
Even with that, I had 6 Polaris segments out of IAH with around 56k PQP (~52k PQP UA metal w/o starter PQP) and 72 PQF and around 50 CPM. I really thought I had a shot this year especially considering that I have ~15K PQP worth of UA metal booked for the first two months of the year and know people who got it in IAH with less in previous years. Really hoping to see something different in the next two days! |
Called GS desk. They said they are still processing and that the 1K invite means nothing and I need to wait until the 3rd week of January. We shall see...

My digital card updated sometime during the last day from 1/2024 to 1/2026. I guess they figure my lifetime (and UA's) will last two years 🤣

SFO based $59K PQP in 2022 then followed up with $65K in 2023 AFTER bonus subtracted and still no nod as yet. Unfortunately, a high PQF (103) hurts case assumed . But here's the thing: Majority of these flights connect at a hub (DEN,ORD) due to UA not offering nonstop flights to many cities. Still, almost every flight is FC and 100% UA metal in 2023. Also, 5% (or less) free FC upgrades in 2023 is significant to their bottom line.

I also got the welcome letter for 1K today. Im relatively new to flying United the past year and half or so. I made 1K last year and have 85,000 PQP this year and 40 PQF. Pretty much all Polaris business class flights to Asia and I live in an AA/SWA hub city. Hoping to make GS but the 1K letter had me wondering.

Remember UA bases GS on flying UA metal. If your numbers were all on UA metal you have nothing to worry about. But only United and United Express operated flights, not codeshares or partner flights. |
A co-worker just requalified on ~35K PQP and 10 PQF out of EWR. He had 90K+ PQP the year before, so that may have been a factor.

Out of EWR and a 3MM. GS since Continental merger but last year had to do a challenge to become GS again because of 2022 PQP low at 37,228 (like many people my international travel was way decreased post-COVID). In 2023 PQP 76,770 with 63,466 PQP on United metal. 126 segments with 142,529 odometer air miles as I progress towards 4MM. Domestic travel is unfortunately always booked in coach with cheap tickets due to company policies. However overseas always is in Polaris.
Still no word for me about GS for 2024. |

yeah it’s seeming more and more that it’s cpm based. I think United made way more profit on that person than someone who spent 50k PQP on 100 segments.
From a hub, 100+ segments in Y would be a lot of revenue, but likely low margins. 100 segments in J, is something entirely different. Now factor a non hub where you have no choice but to make a connection to most destinations - the flights from outstations in both Y and J aren’t 2x the price from a hub. So in this case a high segment count tells a 3rd and completely different story. While it has some value, I’d be very surprised if segment count alone has anything to do with qualification. |
Tonight.... we may finally be getting to our conclusion as some have stated
