The 772s have overwater WW coverage, some other aircraft used for Hawai'i may not.
Internet access is never 100% certain do to occasional equipment issues.

In my experience it worked most of the time - but is very very slow overwater. Like painfully slow.

The Summer ORD-HNL flights currently scheduled for the 777-300 seemed to have recently capped the J seats for sale at or around 28. This was originally showing the 787-8, then changed to the 773. Currently I have 2 seats in J booked for late June, hoping that if theres a swap it's back to the 787 and not the high density 772. Afraid that when they reassign seats I'll end up in the middle section with nothing available in the window pairs.

Did the HD every fly ORD-HNL? Seems like that would push the range with headwinds.

I don't have first hand knowledge but I believe it did. Last time I went to Hawaii United was still flying the "Hawaii config" with the barcaloungers so I opted to connect in SFO and took the 764 over the water

Thank you both. I found out the hardway that the old 757 don't have WIFI coverage, while flying over the Pacific.

Yes, and yes it was at the limit for range.

My complaint about the plane is much lower F seats compared to the GE 777-200's and obviously the -300's that have been running on the Hawaii routes. When travel picks back to Hawaii it is a near impossible upgrade even for GS.
I find it the most comfortable seat in the fleet, so I agree with you there. Also agree with you on difficultly of upgrades, especially compared to other 772/3.

As for "no different" -- well, it's more than psychological.

I just booked an April 2022 HNL-SFO flight, and the plane is a 772, 2x4x2 J seat configuration.
Yikes! It indeed appears the HD 772 reappears on the SFO-HNL schedules in April.. The good news is that looking through July (picking random Fridays) it seems it's a mix of 2-3x HD 772's, and 1x 777-300ER on the same days. Fingers crossed the 773's still linger around a while, it was nice while it lasted! However, as the others note, I'll take the 772 over the 737s and 757s appearing on these routes any day!

I will also vote that seat as the 2nd comfortable seat besides CX's first class seat.

I have a HNL-SFO flight end of March that is on an HD 772. The flight just went to “seat map unavailable”. Hoping for a 77W…

YES!!! My April 4 SFO-HNL was swapped to 777-300 from P&W

April 12 HNL-LAX also switched from P&W to 777-300 as well as April 20 SFO-HNL

And the flights that just switched 772G to 77W will tend to have lots of discounted front cabin inventory due to the added 32 seats . . . saving nearly $300 by changing to one of these flights!
