Was going to dump the Club Card myself but just saw my fee went through on it end of last November. Not sure if I can cancel and get prorated refund but will probably just ride it out for another year. I will be flying UA significantly for at least one more year.

Depending on your exact billing cycle, you may still be able to cancel and recoup the fee. Call Chase.

Failing that, enjoy 10 months of hummus, salad and crackers.

So, in a nutshell, are the Club or Explorer cards no longer all that valuable?

In a nutshell, for some yes or others no

If you don't want to earn captive UA miles, then there are better earning cards
If you don't have a status or a benefit the card offers, then the card might make sense

This is no simple answer, it dependents of your full set of circumstances -- and one should investigate if there are better options -- no one answer again, need to investigate the options and the benefits you want..

I recently switched to United TravelBank just to keep the account open. I had had a classic UA Platinum VISA for almost a decade. Given the recent changes (MP devaluation), I don’t see any of the value of these Chase UA cards. I have a CSR and I am a million miler.

I have a business explorer card and also got the UA business card. Is there any reason to keep the business explorer card open?

Canceled all my United credit cards

I closed all my united cards yesterday starting with my United Club card. It was a shame United couldnt act quickly enough to offer any incentives to keep the cards open. The club card has a $450 fee but since my employer canceled all travel and since its unlikely I will go anywhere until this virus mess is addressed, I saw no point. I am curious if anyone else is doing the same?

I am a lifetime United Club member, and am using my (old) Marriott Bonvoy card to attain lifetime Platinum Elite status there.

I just applied for the United Explorer card to get the free Global Entry, and Group 2 status if I cannot retain Bonvoy Titanium Elite status this year, with its complimentary UA Premier Silver.

I too cancelled all my UA cards, not just because of the virus, but mainly because of the Change Refunds-policy changed from 2+ hrs to 6+ hrs. Bankruptcy is next and UA deserves it.

I am keeping my hotel cards open. Heck, I am looking forward to super cheap mattress runs but I will drive not fly to my destinations.

Seems like a lot of hassle to close for a few months' worth of travel disruption -- I'm keeping mine open (for now). Sure, I'll eat the cost this year with very little travel, but *shrug*

Brancatelli, for once,

https://joe.joesentme.com (Pay wall site)

speaks the truth on this. I cancelled my decades-old UA Signature Visa and am avoiding miles for cash back. Mileage Plus points are even worse the drachma and lira were years ago.

Kirby gives you 4x miles and devalues by 8x. Are you not amused?
