To find your PQDs if >than $12K
Go to
MileagePlus activity since my last statement and it is in the "Account summary" table at the top of the page.

Note this is not just the UA operated PQDs (which is commonly believed to be what matters for GS) but rather your total PQDs.

Definitions

BIS is actual scheduled flight distance (Great Circle Mileage Distance -- GCM) between airports with 500 mile minimum for elites. This is the standard used for Lifetime miles also. Those flying mostly sub-500 segments sometimes prefer to not use the minimum rule.

The definition for CPM is a bit vaguer, especially since CPM is used in multiple different situations.

Believe for the purpose of this thread, GS qualification, folks are using

PQD CPM = UA PQDs / UA BIS

Note there is no direct evidence UA uses this CPM number for GS Qualification but it is a number FTers like to use.

As for BIS, UA does not report this number your account and it needs to be manually tracked.

One way is to make use that PQMs are based on BIS but there may be a multiplier / bonus for high end fares. If always in 2x PQMs, you could divide by 2 to get BIS.

Need to remove any non-UA operated flights from the PQDs. UA ticket stock is not the metric.

Also, need to report your 3-year running UA operated PQD total (seems UA is looking for at least $100K for that)

I may be the test case for coming in just under $100K three year prior and barely over the $50K threshold for a potential qualifying year! Fingers crossed

Waiting to see if I get GS, would be a 1st for me.

I am currently sitting at

210,102 PQMs
71.5 PQS
64,107 PQD

All on United Metal, most likely have another 10 to 15K in spend left to go before the end of Dec 2019.

It will be interesting to see how many of these ‘I’m at $30-$50K spend’ situations go as far as 2020 qualification. I can’t fathom that UA will grant exponentially higher benefits (GS vs 1K) when the spend is 1.5X to 2X higher than 1K requirement. Yes, I’m mixing two qualification years here but GS is not a published benefit so UA can change its tune whenever it wants. If there’s any logic to MP qual changes UA just announced, I’d have to believe GS qual goes to $100,000.

I hope not. There would be very few GS at that point.

I agree.... I have qualified three years in a row with low- to mid- $40k per year on about 90K BIS miles - almost always FC/BC - only one to two internationals per year - non-hub airport. $100k limit would kill my hopes.

I think 100K GS qualification is too high, but I could easily see $60K in EWR & SFO.

1K ranks are going to thin - I believe dramatically - we don’t know yet. Imagine Willis Tower feeling we don’t need 5-10 GS boarding a SFO-EWR flight. Would be odd if GS outnumber 1K. Doesn’t feel special anymore to be GS. I can totally see them thinning the GS ranks to 0-1 GS on your average high rev flight, eg SFO-EWR. That’s how it used to be 5-10 years ago.

The thing about GS is that the qualification criteria are unpublished. So while they could make it harder to qualify the first time, how do you tell current GS who keep consistent spend you’re no longer a top customer?

A 1K at least knows what it takes and could spend more to make it, but if United tells me that my $50-60k is no longer good enough to stay GS it wouldn’t motivate me to spend more, it would motivate me to spend substantially less.

Just a personal observation without any hard facts, I do feel the number of GS has increased in the past 3 years. I fly pretty much the same routes in the past 10+ years, and I do expect more GS at SFO, ORD, EWR and other hub airports.

On these same routes for 10+ years, the GS boarding has become quite congested with a number of GS scattered around the gate areas, and swarm to board once boarding for GS is announced.
I guess this fine that UA seem to be able to get a lot of high business flyers Boarding Group 1 has become Boarding Group 3 of the past.
